The UK is still pretty much divided into upper, middle and lower class. The existence of a middle class gives something for the working class to aspire to and the middle class - how would I know. The upper class just see that the peasants are working in the fields and all is well. In this environment we might look at the evolution of the "herd immunity" idea. The elite will always get the best medical care and have little to fear from the coronavirus. But the elite are constantly in contact with peasants - they clean, they cook, they piiot the plane, they serve the drinks. It is in everyone's best interests to have healthy peasants. The coronavirus would rapidly overwhelm the health service and one estimate (not mine) is that 250,000 peasants would die in the process of acquiring herd immunity. A democratic country with a small population of about 60million would lose 250 times more peasants than a dictatorship with a population of 1.4 billion. I don't think the loss of peasants would hurt but the comparisons with Vlad the Impaler would carry on for the next ten generations.

So we have a change of policySmile
That's an interesting take on things, confused. You could be onto something. ^^

Everyone's life is valuable. I find what's happening to be an existential crisis as well, on a worldwide scale. It is perhaps a reset for us all to self reflect as to what is truly most important in life. Hint, it's not money. A few of my private equity clients are talking about buying up distressed companies to build their portfolios ''for cheap.'' Capitalizing on others' misery, I suppose. The existential threat is definitely dangerous, if we don't learn anything through this crisis, and we become an even worse dog-eat-dog world.

@ CC - lol I agree. (I'd quote you but...yea...it works when it wants to)

@ stryder - It definitely makes ya wonder. But why would anyone want to purposely thwart the market, when it was doing so well?
The thing about the upper classes is that you can't 'buy' them - the chances of you having anything they want is zero. Compare with Bezos who would happily boil down your children to make axle grease if he thought he could make tuppence by doing it. Being locally fairly well off I took a wodge of cash round to someone who has been doing occasional work for me for the last 30 years - these are strange times -- like I'd do the straight bits of a staircase and call him in to do the turn. Before I even had a chance to start to explain he sad "Can't take it.".

Aw, that was nice of you...and very dear that he wouldn't take it. It is strange times, indeed. Keep your stories coming, I like them.
Really tired of hearing other countries blame the US for their failings and Iran believes the US is behind this pandemic.

Why would you give him virus contaminated cash? Maybe he thought you were trying to kill him. Smile

Dilemma: If an virus infected person offered you a million bucks in $20 bills, that he/she personally stacked and stuffed in a suitcase just yesterday, would you take it? On condition that you take out the money, count it today and you don’t have disease.

"The Bible" seems unnecessarily broad. Does the Old Testament really have to be included for consideration? Even the NT revolves initially around the origin of a Jewish cult that splinters off from the main, before barely opening the door for its transition to an overwhelmingly gentile religion in the future. Apparently Catholicism had to do similar, but the Protestant tradition especially set out to emphasize and portray the “Pauline gospel” as different from that of other apostles, absolving gentile Christians of Torah observance.

EDIT (addition): Whichever version is still around, the so-called Jefferson Bible ("The Philosophy of Jesus of Nazareth" and "The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth"), sounds like it would be a succinct source for a gathering of people who aren't interested in quarreling over the specific doctrinal and occult trappings of denominational Christianity.

This sounds like Russian Roulette, so I'm gonna say no.  Blush Would you, Z?

Yes, because it can’t enter your body through your hands. I would count it. Say, thank you, and then expose it to UV rays and store it for 14 days.

Well, now that I think about, I personally wouldn’t take it because I don’t like to take anything from people…too many strings.

Is that based on Trump’s advice? Rolleyes You forgot to wash your hands and don’t touch your face.

At my age I’d take the chance. My kids get the money if I’m dead or alive.
