I don't. But usually such people are just using me to make attacks on large groups of people, like all Republicans. In which case, I readily show how Democrat policies have the most bigoted, racist, misogynist, etc. real world results. It's no skin off my nose, especially when such people are so ill-equipped to support their accusations.

And I can just as readily choose to ignore them, as I've done many times before.
Hmm, I recall you being affected by posts on here, Syne. It’s okay. We are all human and even though we are merely internet strangers, words across your screen directed at you, can have a negative impact, if you’re in a heated discussion. I don’t spend as much time on forums as I used to - and that has helped me to avoid becoming “emotionally invested.”

Am I missing something? Didn't you just say that people will assume that where there is smoke there's fire?

It's how the left has operated for decades. PC niceties just don't cut it.

That was your justification for your behavior, right?  If you're a mentally healthy and secure person, why would you care what strangers say on the internet?

I've also never thought of CC as ''not willing to engage.'' Hmm. It's interesting how everyone's perceptions are a bit different.

Well, I'm certainly not out to deliberately or with hope of success to convert people (to whatever it is I'm supposed to be converting them to). If I ever converted somebody it was surely by accident, just the result of me yammering around about a topic.

Hip hip hooray, I hit reply and your quote carried over!  Big Grin

I think we need to have an idea of what is meant by ''engaging.'' I see you as always engaging, but not necessarily as a spirited debater. You share your views, and aren't looking to convert others to your way of thinking, as you put it.
Engaging is not just expressing your view, nor is it necessarily debating either. It's simply being willing to support your views. Personally, I haven't seen CC express many views divisive or contrary enough to even warrant supporting. Who know, maybe she has no strong views on controversial topics.

If you've inferred any emotional affect on me, I can assure you, that was your own subjective perception. Now, when others get angry and insulting, I have no problem giving tit for tat. Don't mistake rhetorical mutually assured destruction for any negative impact on me. Doesn't happen. It's just silly to get bent out of shape by internet strangers.

That's about the inactive readers, not any need I feel. I care that people, in general, get both sides, but I don't really care what strangers online *think* they know about me.
Way back in my totally idealised childhood we had the concept of a level playing field. In the long hot days of summer we'd play games and if one side looked like winning some of the kids would be told to go play for the other side to even things up a bit. The game wasn't about winning - it was about the game.
