Humf.
Quote:Engaging is not just expressing your view, nor is it necessarily debating either. It's simply being willing to support your views.

IOW engaging for Syne is arguing for your views when someone comes along and questions them. Engaging is more than just arguing. There are posts where someone is talking about their life experiences, and others can engage that poster by talking with them about it. There are posts where the topic is some world event, and posters here can engage each other by sharing their concerns. There are posts where posters are encouraged to engage by sharing their own creative speculations and intuitions. Engaging simply means participating in a discussion with someone. You don't have to argue to engage someone.
Not to change the topic...lol

But, I'm thinking of buying an inexpensive camera, and taking up photography. Mainly nature pics. Does anyone have such a hobby, and could you recommend a good digital camera? One of my friends recently upgraded to the iphone 10, and the photo quality using that phone's camera is really sharp. But, I'm not interested in upgrading my phone, just would like a separate camera to pursue this.
Um, context.

Engaging life experience, world events, creative speculations, etc. are not engaging with something you disagree with.

Engaging as you defined it is not just being willing to support your views:

"Engaging is not just expressing your view, nor is it necessarily debating either. It's simply being willing to support your views."

Engaging simply means participating in a discussion with someone. You don't have to argue to engage someone.
What part of "context" do you not understand?

The part where it ignores the context I JUST gave you.

Again, maybe CC just has zero opinions on any controversial topic.

Context doesn't change the definition of engaging that you gave. It's right there in your post. You said it, and you're wrong. Engaging simply means participating in a discussion with someone. You don't have to argue for or support your views to engage someone.
