One person is Grandma – he/she faces a wall. The others in the group start at the other end of the room, then try to creep up to Grandma and tap her on the shoulder. However, at any moment, Grandma can turn around suddenly. If she sees anyone moving, she points at them and that person must return to the start.

Statues (generic form)

The Weeping Angels of Doctor Who are based on that game. However, those incrementally encroaching "statues" don't exchange places if touching the curator/Grandma. But instead send their victims back in time to before the latter were born (among other things).

Potential historical candidates that have been submitted for a temporally displaced Vlad are Peter the Great, Alexander III, Otto von Bismarck, Ivan the Terrible.

Weeping Angels are inherent predators like wolves, hawks, sharks, the Borg, etc. ("Rehabilitation is futile.") However, their prey can just as much be other predators, as "innocents".
I've just had a very long 'phone conversation with someone from around that region [waves hand vaguely over northern hemisphere]. He describes Ukranianes as a set of bastards. Biological parents showing up [I tried it] didn't play well in this scenario. He muttered something about 3,000BC at which point I switched the subject to solar heating which is why I originally called him. Earlier lots of criticism of western censorship [edit UK] (also a set of bastards).
Weeping Angels was also the name of the alleged Samsung Smart TV CIA hack.

It's a shame the temporary displacement isn't just old Russian Law (Rus Pravda, During the Rurik reign) as it's original intention was Truth/Justice and fairness (at least to some extent considering the type of governance at the time) By definition Putin would definitely have broken Rus Pravda due to lies (propaganda) being misused as truth (pravda), The most severe punishment was an Iron (red hot poker?) to force a confession (perhaps to death) that he'd commited such acts and he and his associates would have to pay repartition for the damage to property and loss of life.

At least thats what it reads in regards to some of Yaroslavs Laws.
Day 15 summary.

https://militaryland.net/ukraine/invasio...5-summary/

The big event today is that a Russian column reached the eastern outskirts of Kyiv and entered a town called Brovary. The Ukrainians were waiting as they did and struck the Russian column with anti-armor weaponry. And after suffering many losses the Russians pulled back out of Brovary.

US military analysts are amazed at how ineptly those Russians behaved. They didn't have any scouts out in front to detect the opposing forces, they didn't have infantry out on the flanks to engage them. They just drove blindly into a trap. It was a totally botched combined arms operation.

We sacrificed our long-term relations with Russia on the altar of an ill-conceived plan to haphazardly expand an outmoded military alliance, ill-conceived for domestic political purposes and ill-conceived as a legacy for one man, (Bill Clinton). We excluded and alienated Russia. The contention has always been with the expansion, and NATO not taking the views outside of its members into consideration, which isn’t entirely unreasonable when you consider the possible interpretations of two documents that we signed.

ASTANA COMMEMORATIVE DECLARATION

Zhang Jun, China’s representative to the UN, encouraged us to seek a security balance with Russia that’s sustainable.
The situation in Ukraine has deteriorated where it is today due to a combination of complex factors. To resolve complex issues, what is required is calm and reason rather than adding fuel to the flame, which will only lead to escalation. To resolve the crisis in Ukraine it is imperative to abide by the principles and the purposes of the UN charter, respect and ensure the sovereignty of territorial integrity of countries, and to abide by the principle of indivisibility of security and address reasonable security concerns of the parties concerned. It is imperative to stick with dialog and negotiation and to find a resolution to the dispute through peaceful means. Any action that’s conducive to easing the situation and a political settlement will receive China’s support. Any action that is not conducive to promoting a diplomatic solution under which in essence means fanning and fueling the flame leading to escalation will be met with China’s opposition. We are deeply concerned at the intensifying unilateral sanctions. Sanctions are not an effective means to finding a lasting solution to the issue in question. On the contrary, they will create disastrous humanitarian consequences and their spillover effect will create a dimension of loss to other countries.  Importing offensive weapons into Ukraine and sending mercenaries may further worsen the situation and create more and bigger risks. China will continue to speak for peace and to work for peace. We encourage Russia and Ukraine with their direct negotiations and we express the hope that their talks are fruitful where peace can be created. China has always been committed to create peace through negotiations. On the second day of the conflict, we arranged a phone call with President Putin. President Xi Jinping already expressed his wish that Russia and Ukraine will hold peace talks as soon as possible to which President Putin responded positively. China is also willing, when the time requires, to join the international community to carry out necessary good offices. We also encourage the United States, NATO and EU to carry an equal dialog with Russia and to face up to the antagonism and problems that have been accumulating for years and to pay high attention to the negative effect to the security environment for Russia that has resulted from the continued eastward expansion of NATO and in accordance with the principle of the indivisible security to seek to and establish a European security that is balanced, effective and sustainable.

IMHO, he’s spot on. This is the only way to end this. Our go-to emotional upheaval is not going to work in this situation. NATO, the EU and the United States need to gracefully acknowledge our wrong doings and realize that our mistakes are now affecting millions. The question you should be asking yourself is, do our leaders of today possess enough self-awareness to admit that they misjudged this situation?

I can admit when I'm wrong. If you disagree with me, don't be passive aggressive. Point out my fatal flaws.
In my opinion there aren't any basic flaws to point out. Nicely put together. It's true that Russian military strategy and tactics has been shown up as poor. Which unfortunately enhances the pressure on Putin & Co to consider the nuke option. 'We' created the pressures leading to that awful prospect.

I have a suspicion those columns probably weren't at full force. Russia's been using diversion tactics where possible to split force. Considering the maintenance and Logistics issues for that particular location, it was likely a skeleton crew using vehicles the Kremlin deemed expendable to give the appearance of a push in the area. This does mean those drivers likely didn't have a clue that they were being sacrificed Sad.

It's a shame they can't go on a joy ride a bit further from the active lines using the most uneconomical gearing and just run out of fuel. Just to keep them out of the battle and give them a chance to return home. The main problem there though is to maintain the appearance of following orders without deserting, to be captured without shooting or at least evade detection from both sides until they know they can submit safely.
More Starlink terminals have arrived in Ukraine. When you compare a few hundred terminals with the crowds in MR photo below, its just a drop in the bucket. But I gather that these first terminals are being used by the government to maintain its communications.

It looks like my old commute to San Francisco every morning.

Seriously though, more than 2 million Ukrainians have already fled to Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Many more are on the way. Lviv in western Ukraine is bursting at the seams by refugees from further east. They say that half the population of Kyiv has left, a city of 3 million.

All of these people are scared, they have left their homes, many of their friends and loved ones and all of their possessions. They are hungry and cold. They have no idea where they will end up (wherever the train they manage to board is going) or what they will do once they get there.

Europe hasn't seen anything like this since 1945.
