The story seems to be that Russian officers were addressing an ethnically mixed group of soldiers being trained for action in the "special military operation". To which some of the Tajik soldiers said that the only holy war is Muslims against infidels. To which the Russian officer said that "Allah is a coward if he does not allow you to fight for the country to which you took an oath". This supposedly "shocked" many of the Muslims present, who took it to be blasphemy. Then three of the Tajik soldiers told the other Muslim soldiers to stand aside and shot the Russian officer and continued shooting indiscriminately into the remaining non-Muslim soldiers until some of them returned fire and killed two of the three Tajiks. The third was said to be wounded but escaped.

Russia originally was extremely complaintive about NATO bordering the country and constantly worried about what weapons were pointed at them, now I wonder whether Putins unwittingly started another Cuban Missile Crisis, however instead of Cuba it would likely be Belarus and the missiles are Iranian.

The real concern is whether Iran has remote access to control the missiles. It wouldn't take much for one of those to be fired off into Europe to start WWIII and Russia would get the blame (Part of the reason that both Iran and North Korea haven't been too much of a concern is the distance between them and us, if they start moving those missiles to the border of Europe that could well change.)

More afraid of the mad men who might use a nuke. However I'm thinking a guy like Putin wouldn't want to give up wealth and power. Don't think he'd nuke for some religious reason. OTOH religious nut jobs may feel like they're fulfilling a prophecy. Maybe Iran could be first since Japan or at least have a few pointed at them.

The Russian buildup in Belarus north of western Ukraine continues. But some observers are of the opinion that it's just a feint and that Russia won't be in position to launch a new offensive until its newly mobilized troops are brought up to speed.

An interesting observation is that vehicles belonging to these forces, both Russian and Belarussian, have new symbols painted on them, a triangle with the number 2 inside it.

The big bright fireball suggests a fuel blevy, consistent with the plane being fully fueled when it took off.
