drones or not wont be able to see inside buildings

are the orcs booby trapping the buildings in the citys ?

M. Podolyak, one of Volodymyr Zelensky's advisers, seems to have had the same thought.

He says, "Actions speak louder than words. We see no signs that Russia is leaving Kherson without a fight. A part of the ru-group is preserved in the city and additional reserves are charged to the region. Ukraine is liberating territories based on intelligence data, not staged TV statements."

And the press spokeswoman for Ukraine's Operational Command South, says that the Russian withdrawal is "a show" and a "psychological operation". She adds that the Russians have prepared fortifications near Kherson and are prepared to defend the city.

Not going to be allowed to have much effect, though. Kind of like after the Russian Revolution, the Soviet regime eliminated or reduced both activism and ownership of firearms (to prevent the same fate happening to itself someday). Doubtless overwhelmed by the nostalgia of his KGB days, Putin just carrying on the tradition. (Exception being when it is counter-activism that is an overt proponent of state policies.)
The Russians do seem to be pulling out from the west side of the Dnipro river. But they have thousands of troops there and they just can't pull them out all at once without it turning into another rout. Covering forces have to remain to keep the Ukrainians from setting upon the forces being withdrawn. (Military officers say a retreat under fire is one of the most difficult maneuvers they train for.)

The Ukrainians are advancing all along the front. Their biggest gains today are retaking Snihurivka, a fairly important rural town of about 12,000 population and the largest town the Russians held in Mykolaiv oblast. The Ukrainians are also advancing slowly towards Kherson city from the direction of Mykolaiv city and are nearing Kherson's airport outside of town. The Russians had been using this airport as a helicopter base, but had to back off that since the Ukrainians kept hitting it with artillery (including those damned HIMARS).

I think that the Ukrainians are going slow, figuring why get ourselves killed today when we can occupy these towns tomorrow when the Russians pull out. The Russians withdraw and the Ukrainians fill the vacuum. I expect they are careful not to fall into any traps set for them as well.

There are complaints on the Russian internet that the Russian withdrawl is taking too long to across the river. They are using ferries that present moving targets to the Ukrainians, since fixed bridges have become HIMARS targets. After the Antonovskii bridge outside Kherson city was hit and rendered impassible to military vehicles, they tried building pontoon bridges, but that didn't work out all that well:

Big day in Kherson oblast today!

Ukrainian soldiers have entered Kherson city, where they were greeted by flag-waving crowds as liberators. (A bit like Paris in 1944.)

Special Kherson Cat says that the advance of Ukrainian soldiers to the center of town was slowed by so many local residents trying to hug them!

It's hard not to be moved watching this. (Especially the tiny old lady with the red scarf and cane.)

Widespread reports that the Russians blew up the Antonovskii bridge, the nearby railroad bridge and the bridge at Khakova up the river to keep the Ukrainians from crossing behind them. This is still unverified though lots of people are saying it.

One good thing about a population of over 283,000 people is that they all can't be forcefully "evacuated" to create the false impression that they didn't want to be liberated from their new "annexed" Russian citizenship status. Plus, the Russian troops were too legitmately desperate to get away themselves to worry about facilitating and managing a silly exodus charade like that.

There is reports of soldiers uniforms being dumped, so they must have changed into civilian clothing.
hopefully they find them.
