Earth Quake statistics & Locations

I read before that the small quakes reduce the likelihood of a big one, but in the case of California, it is the small ones that can mean the big one is about to happen. This is because in some areas the plates slip easily and constantly and the plates pass each other with just little quakes, but in California the plates are hung up and can't just move past each other, until the rock hanging up the plates breaks, and this requires a lot of built up pressure to break the rock hang up. Then that built up pressure continues the sudden movement, until it is released. That is the major earthquake, instead of the small little quakes. This link explains-

Two fault lines in California have been recently discovered. This is one of them-

Below this link is another one explaining the possibility that full moons may help cause big quakes.

This is the second fault line in the bay area that was recently discovered.

Thanks for the info. i try not to create any fear and try to focus on the science side of things.
i was reading or watching something on undersea landslides.

Quote:A 4000-km2 area of submarine slump and slide deposits along the W flank of Mauna Loa volcano has been mapped with GLORIA side-scan sonar images, seismic reflection profiles, and new bathymetry. The youngest deposits are 2 debris avalanche lobes that travelled from their breakaway area near the present shoreline as much as 100 km into the Hawaiian Deep at water depths of 4800 m. The 2 lobes partly overlap and together are designated the Alika slide. They were derived from the same source area and probably formed in rapid succession. Slumping on Mauna Loa has been most intense adjacent to the large arcuate bend in its SW rift zone, as the rift zone migrated westward away from the growing Kilauea volcano. Slumping events were probably triggered by seismic activity accompanying dike injection along the rift zone. Such massive slumps, landslides and distal submarine turbidity flows appear to be widespread on the flanks of Hawaiian volcanoes.-from Authors

lts of lateral motion, and ecuador has lots of concrete block 2 and 3 story housing which is extremely weekly built.
there is probable large scale damage to housing in the closest citys.
many buildings will be too unsafe to goback in if and when another quake strikes as it will crush people to death with the falling large concrete blocks.
electricity is a bit of a mess as thereis massive underfunding in utilities.

video of the shaking you can see lots of horizontal movement for such a small quake.
flimsy weakly built concrete block houses shaken quite badly

Some big shakin going on around the pacific plate.
working non stop over xmass so have missed a few

continued movmnent on the marina trench
would not be surprised at all if we got another between 7 & 8 on the pacific plate boundary in the next week or soo.

some movement on the western plate boundary.
i am expecting something a bit shallower to occur probably close to a 7 to 7.5 in the next few days unles a smaller 6 to 6.5 occurs to release some of the pressure(fingers crossed).

after lookng at the paterns of movement i am pondering if Taiwan might get something like a 6 to 6.5 in the next few days, maybe the next week.
with continued deep presure on indonesia and the kermadec trench i am guessing thereis probably some build up currently around taiwan.
and it appears that taiwan is the easement point for build up in that region.
it will be interesting to see if they get something around a 6 or slightly larger in the next week. probably around a depth of 25 to 30 kilometers im guessing so it probably wont do much damage if any.
