They probably know that people who would be offended by their values will simply not watch or read their work. Unless such people are only trying to stir up trouble for them. But even then who cares? People generally get offended by what they decide will offend them.

So they're willingly alienating some portion of the potential audience.
And they expect that not to be reflected in the reviews?

The problem is that Disney's management ranks are populated by left-activists. These people see that the company has rights to these intellectual properties like Star Wars and Marvel that have had huge followings for decades. That gives the activists what they believe is a built-in audience and access to millions of eyeballs.
Given that they are activists, the Disney management have social-change agendas that they want to promote. And given that their intellectual properties give them what they believe is access to millions of eyeballs, what better than to use the media power that they believe they have to promote their pet causes? Of course, if these are social-change causes, then they are all about telling other people, the society that supposedly needs changing, that things they believe and deeply value are all wrong and need to immediately change. Predictably, that alienates audiences and quickly taints the can't-fail intellectual properties. Audiences learn that the more recent Star Wars movies or Marvel movies aren't fun like they once were and the alienated audiences damnedly say that on the fan sites. Doing so gets them condemned as "haters". But being called a "hater" isn't going to make anyone more likely to see these movies, let alone to have fun doing it. That's why Disney seems to be on a downward death-spiral, turning all their beloved zillion dollar intellectual properties into crap.

Just like a precious snowflake to call anyone who disagrees a hater.
Artists can express what they want... until they lose those bankrolling it so much money that they quit making it. Call it "go woke, go broke," "dwindling returns," "throwing good money after bad," etc..

There are plenty of billion dollar companies willing to bankroll films and TV series that freely express liberal values. Disney and LucasFilms and Warner Bros and Pixar and Netflix to name just a few. Remember now...the liberals run Hollywood. That's why conservative films attacking LGBT, women, blacks, and other ethnicities just don't get made. Or if they do nobody hears about them. |
