Sounds like the DW franchise has been reduced to the equivalent of a whacky, slapstick public service message. In the US, that kind of thing could still have a spot on Sunday morning programming, with all the other preaching. (Thinking of vintage Davey and Goliath here, especially, but with a Culture Theory facelift for the current era.)
But it's the BBC that will be left holding the pieces after Disney drops out. With less funding to support Doctor Who, than before it held hands across the pond. On the bright side, surely the BBC is historically well known for dispensing various "good community" propaganda and other bland social sermons over the decades. Just slash the budget and indeed present it as a neo-Sunday beatitude.

INTRO: I'm honestly a little shocked with the numbers that we're seeing here. I truly expected that at least people would rubberneck and tune in for a premiere of a season of Doctor Who. But the fans are done. The show has burned all of the goodwill, burned every bridge, possible. And this is the end result. What's happening? I'm watching the wrong effing show. Not 3 minutes in and we're just clobbered all about the head and shoulders with agenda garbage. It's no wonder rumors abound that this [ __ ] show has been cancelled. Or at least that it is getting defunded by Disney.
Too late, of course, this franchise has been mortally wounded and will never be what it once was....
