THE WOKE CRITIC

VIDEO INTRO: A masterpiece. A masterclass. The master of cinema Paul Thomas Anderson is back with a movie that will get you moving off your couch and straight into the loving arms of Hollywood.

Forget There Will Be Blood, this is real good. Damn good. A movie so just it feels just like Black Lives Matter released their own movie.

Here’s why Paul T’s latest masterpiece is One Woke Battle After Another.

Leonardo DiCaprio ["Ghetto" Pat Calhoun] is Bob Ferguson and, Bob’s Your Uncle. He’s a deadbeat dad trying to keep alive an old revolutionary ideology. In his younger years, he was Rocket Man and, man, was he explosive.

There was no abort button. He and his resistance group French 75 blew the ever-loving smithereens out of conservative politicians. Are you pro-life? Anti-mass migration? Enola Gay’s coming your way. He lit their asses up like Christmas lights in Christmas Vacation.

Leo has a girlfriend, and this one’s older than 25. A badass Black mamba: Perfidia Beverly Hills. A perfect name for the strongest, baddest woman on Planet Hollywood, and you don’t need to check her birth certificate.

In this relationship, she wears the jeans and he wears the man bun. They’re a progressive Bonnie and Clyde; no right-wing politico can hide from their boomtastic brand of sweet social bloody justice.

What does French 75 stand for? Free borders, free bodies, free choices, and free from ####ing fear.

Sean Penn is back...

CRITICAL DRINKER

VIDEO INTRO: So, when it comes to contentious and politically divisive movies, "One Battle After Another" might just have taken the top spot for the entire year.

Depending on who you talk to, it's either the greatest cinematic triumph of the past two decades -- on par with "Sicario", "Gangs of New York", and "No Country for Old Men" -- or a pretentious, morally bankrupt Hollywood circle-jerk that glorifies domestic terrorism and is more interested in taking shots at the current administration than crafting a compelling story.

And in the middle of this cultural maelstrom is little old me, who's left with the job of setting aside what this movie represents and focusing instead on what it actually is. And I'm sorry to say that what it is, is a frustrating mixture of superb acting and directing talent, desperately trying to elevate a script that doesn't really deserve either.

A movie that's too long, too sluggish, too self-important, and too wrapped up in its own messaging to keep me invested. The kind of film where I struggled to care about any of the characters because they're such a bunch of useless, irritating fuckups that I began to wonder who the good guys were even supposed to be.

Anyway, unlike this movie, which drags on for nearly three excruciating hours, I'm going to try and get this review over with quickly...

I wonder if the "Drunk Critic" or whatever his moniker is watches his movies while also drunk.

If the movie is preaching to the lefty choir, why would I expect an objective take from lefties?
There's no director that can do no wrong, unless you're just a serious fanboy.
