It's very surprising (to me, anyway) how good it sounds.

This might actually reveal something profound about how the human brain processes music

^^^ set me to looking for the most formulaic piece of music I could think of. Turned out to be Vivaldi's Gloria. There's a back story to this that may or may not be entirely true - it was written for girls in an orphanage. To turn them from unwanted non-entities into the pop stars of the day he crafted a can't-fail hit from 'everything'. In passing I'd like to say that in IMHO the note doesn't always come on the beat - the tickle factor is hitting the spot.
