^^^ Nice, I like that.

This is an interesting piece.  There used to be one with just two blackbirds soaring through white noise.  I can’t find it, but this one was pretty good.

In the one below, "Marcus du Sautoy has teamed up with animator Simon Russell to create this animatino to accompany Messiaen’s Quartet for the end of time. It’s got all the usual arty maths things in it – the Fibonacci sequence and golden ratio, prime numbers, polygons and polyhedra of all sorts – as well as the less well-trodden sporadic group M12.

Prof. Marcus du Sautoy and Director Simon Russell used the piece to explore Messiaen's complex relationship to mathematics, music and religious belief."

Messiaen’s understanding of this passage speaks not to a vision of the Apocalypse, nor to his own situation as a prisoner, but to the idea of the end of Time as the end of past and future and the beginning of eternity. He did not want to hear steady rhythms like military drums, and instead aspired to rhythms outside of time.

"The abyss is Time, with its sadnesses and tediums. The birds are the opposite of Time; they are our desire for light, for stars, for rainbows and for jubilant outpourings of song!"
Love Sundown.
