Gender games in the news (not a dystopian novel franchise)

Approval? Validation? Have you ever seen me back down when challenged?

Now, let’s take another look at your so-called alpha male, shall we?

Oops. That non sequitur from validation to not backing down from a challenge is the Freudian slip that tells us exactly the kind of validation you are seeking. Blush
You being submissive and backing down would not provide the egalitarian validation you desire. You're desperate for a man to validate you as an equal, and respect you for your perseverance when challenged. And you just can't manage to square that with your insistence on making emotional arguments. Rolleyes

Here we go again. Directing your argument against the person rather than the position.

You can never stand on your own two feet, can you, Syne?

Do you have an education? How 'bout a job?

No, deary, all this came about because you refused to support your own argument. You actually have to make arguments before they can be addressed. So now you're just projecting the personal arguments you're hypocritically illustrating here. Rolleyes

You refuse to tell us what "nice guy" traits you find attractive, or even why you seek male friends. Take some time and do a little self-discovery. It sounds increasingly like you had few relationships before your, likely only, marriage, and little time to become self-aware.

And according to you, I want some mythical alpha male, is that it?
Or is it the fact that men are still incapable of friendship?

"Women can form a friendship with a man very well; but to preserve it, a slight physical antipathy most probably helps."—Nietzsche

Here’s where Nietzsche is a little off because we all know that looks aren’t all that important to women.  Your looks are based on our likes and dislikes.  A hot asshole gets ugly real fast.

Not according to me. According to your complete inability to expound on alternatives.
Men are actually more capable of friendship with other men than women are with other women. So why should we expect men to be the obstacle to male-female friendship? What's much more likely is that men don't like friends who treat them like their gay friend, emotional tampon, handyman, etc. without any real reciprocated value. The female propensity to hypergamy extends to male friends, where they expect more value than they give.

In Nietzsche's view, friendship should be casual and playful as well as combative and aggravating, as a means to becoming the ubermensch. As friends, women cannot challenge a man in way that improves him. There's just no incentive or pressure. Where a woman can consider a man a friend, on a par with the sort of competitive friendships they have with other women, a man cannot do so without a physical dislike for a woman. Women cannot preserve friendships with men. Only a man can do that.

And god forbid a man treat a woman as he does other men. Teasing you about your weight, muffin top, saggy tits, wrinkles, crying, etc.? Men to this to other men to strengthen them. But men must treat all women with emotional kid gloves.

"Ugly" can be tricky -- all westerners have huge, oversized noses from the relational standpoint of many East Asian populations. I remember the kids in one locale being especially amused by Michael Palin's well-endowed honker when they met him in person.

In intermittent earlier eras and starvation-prone regions a plump or outright "fat" bride was actually desirable because it indicated a potential capacity to survive famine, that could be passed on to offspring. There were probably fewer artificially overweight people back in the 1930s when Roaring Lion wrote the original version. Like one of my cousins, they're often in disguise because of that -- she was pretty until she got married and then the pounds gave her a secret identity.

But having a tendency to be on the thin side no matter what amount of junk you eat isn't exactly a blessing, either. It took motherhood to finally alleviate to some degree my resemblance to the flat terrain of Kansas. Unlike Judy Garland at age 16, they wouldn't have had to tape me down and apply a "special corset" to play Dorothy.

Maybe where Wynona Ryder and I would have differed physical-form wise at age 10 is that I never got beat-up and kicked in the girls' restroom for being a more contemporary dressed version of Scout (helped that I irregularly dressed a little more girly-girl than that, though). I can't recall how old Lydia Deetz was supposed to be in *Beetlejuice*, but I vaguely recall another character referring to her as a "little girl", while Ryder herself was actually circa 16. But I suspect Ryder still didn't much need the Judy Garland tape-down treatment at that age, either, should Deetz "really" have been measurably younger.

There was a comedian from Africa that said, we when see a fat woman, we don’t think that she needs to go on a diet. We’re just wondering where she got the food.

Yes, that was him. He was good. I also like Anthony Jeselnik’s sense of humor.
