Is there a tradition or legal requirement (in Canada) that requires family to witness death? There are just so many bad things about this. Works for a TV show but in reality the dying person will never feel worse (clue - they're dying).. incontinence, dementia, feeling like they're about to die .. surely there's no worse time for having the people you care about sitting around waiting for you to die. If you linger longer than expected .. folks start drifting away to mow lawns and collect children from school .. you get to see life going on without you even though you're still there.
If you're thinking about the maids themselves - there's a school of thought along the lines of prolonging suffering is tantamount to torture (<- channeling Syne there).
Can you explain the comment please. Speaking as one heading for the departure lounge - I'd like to know what others think and why they think it.
