Ireland’s Push To Alter ICJ Genocide Definition a ‘Double-Edged Sword,’ Experts Say

12/17/2024
Ireland’s ICJ bid to redefine genocide amid the war in Gaza isn’t impossible but suggests that the Irish government knows the accusations against Israel can’t hold their ground

Ireland is going to request that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague broaden its interpretation of genocide amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, with Ireland’s deputy prime minister, Micheál Martin, asserting that the IDF’s actions in Gaza constitute “collective punishment” of Palestinians.
...
Dr. Tammy Caner, director of the Law and National Security Program at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), believes it is essential to seek explanations from Israel “regarding its controversial military actions; Israel may not be perfect and has made several mistakes, but the only genocidal war criminal in this war is Hamas. Requesting the ICJ to broaden its interpretation explicitly indicates that Israel is not committing genocide.”

Lieblich also agrees that attempting to change the definition of genocide amid a trial on the subject tells how the case is being seen by its supporters. “The text of the letter is a double-edged sword for the case since Ireland seems to concede that the accepted interpretation of the crime would not apply in this case and argues that it should be changed,” he argued.

Viral Story Of Gaza Child ‘Gunned Down’ By Israel Officially Debunked — The Boy Is Alive

The viral claim that a Gazan boy was “gunned down” by Israel’s military inside a U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation site is false. The Daily Wire has exclusively confirmed that “Amir” is alive — and in a safe, undisclosed location after a false tale about his death was spread by an American contractor.

The news that the boy is alive and unharmed debunks the claim made by former Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) contractor Tony Aguilar, who has garnered attention from politicians, major media outlets, and prominent podcasts such as the Tucker Carlson Show.

The child, who was erroneously labeled “Amir” by Aguilar but is actually named Abdul Rahim Muhammad Hamden, can be seen in footage obtained by The Daily Wire smiling and introducing himself to an interviewer.
...
Not only were the details he shared about their interaction inconsistent with a third party’s footage of it, but the boy’s stepmother said she had seen the boy alive for at least two months after Aguilar claimed he was dead.

In a taped testimonial, Siham Al-Jarabe’a said the boy didn’t go missing until July 28—around the same time Aguilar began telling his story in the media. He insisted that the boy was killed on May 28, and even shared details, saying he witnessed “a shot to the torso” and “a shot to the leg.”
...
After interviews with family members and weeks of detective work, the boy, who actually goes by the name Abood, was found living with his birth mother after he abruptly left his stepmother’s home in July. The child’s identity was confirmed through biometrics, and he remained in possession of the shirt he wore in Aguilar’s viral video.
