Baptists rally to attack gay marriage again..

Going backwards seems to be a popular move for the Biblethumpers...

"The Southern Baptist Convention voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday to call for the overturning of the Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage, with strategists citing the successful effort that overturned the right to legal abortions as a possible blueprint for the new fight.

The denomination has long opposed gay marriage, but Tuesday was the first time its members have voted to work to legally end it. Expanding on conservatives’ success in overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022, the vote signals growing evangelical ambitions to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court ruling that was handed down 10 years ago this month.

“What we’re trying to do is keep the conversation alive,” said Andrew Walker, an ethicist at a Southern Baptist seminary in Kentucky who wrote the resolution.

Mr. Walker leads the Southern Baptist committee that gathers proposals from Baptists around the country to be debated and put to a vote at the meeting. Baptists, he said, are taking the long view, inspired by the tactics of the anti-abortion movement. Roe v. Wade granted a constitutional right to abortion that stood for nearly 50 years before activists and legal strategists defeated it, powered by support from Christian conservatives.

The Baptists’ vote against Obergefell took place at the end of the first day of the denomination’s annual meeting, which is being held this year at a convention center in Dallas. Attracting thousands of pastors and church members from large and small congregations across the country, the meeting is being closely watched as a snapshot of evangelical sentiment on a range of political, theological and cultural issues.

The measure opposing same-sex marriage was part of a sweeping and unusually long resolution under the title, “On Restoring Moral Clarity through God’s Design for Gender, Marriage, and the Family.” It includes calls for defunding Planned Parenthood, for “parental rights in education and healthcare,” and ensuring “safety and fairness in female athletic competition,” a reference to the debate over transgender women in women’s sports.

The resolution is nonbinding, but suggests that evangelicals have long-term ambitions to dismantle an institution that many Americans now accept as a basic right. Southern Baptists who supported the resolution acknowledged that same-sex marriage has wide support.

“It puts Southern Baptists on the record,” said Denny Burk, the president of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, which advocates for distinct roles for men and women. “We know that we’re in a minority in the culture right now, but we want to be a prophetic minority.”

Good. We've seen the slippery slope actually materialize, from "gay marriage won't harm traditional marriage" to literally taking children from traditional families and maiming them for life.

How does gay marriage "harm traditional marriage?" Straights continue to happily marry with no effects from gay people marrying. And who are these marred children you are referring to? Sounds like you have more of a problem with adoption than with marriage.

Learn to read. I just said children being taken from traditional families.
The chain of events is a straight line between gay marriage and gender maiming minors.

OMG! That sounds terrible! So what children are "being taken away from" traditional families?

Those that some states say are transgender and the parents won't maim or sterilize.

LOL! How is being transgender being taken away from traditional families? And what does that have to do with gay marriage?

Get out from under your rock.
Some states literally remove children from their home if the parents won't do "gender-affirming care," e.g. maim or sterilize their children.

Parents across the country seeking to protect their children from the harms of gender ideology are losing custody of their children.

In Ohio, a judge removed a 17-year-old biological girl from her parents’ custody after they refused a testosterone treatment recommended by the Cincinnati Children’s gender clinic to address her diagnosed gender dysphoria.
In California, Abigail Martinez lost custody of her daughter and a court permitted only one hour of visitation each week because Ms. Martinez did not want her daughter to receive gender-transition interventions. Tragically, her daughter took her own life after changing her name and starting on cross-sex hormones.
In Illinois, Jeannette Cooper lost a custody battle with her ex-husband over their 12-year-old daughter’s decision to receive gender-transition interventions.
A recently passed law in California allows courts to strip custody from parents who reside in any state if their child goes to California to obtain gender-transition interventions.

Gay marriage led directly to gay couples having children. Gay couples having children, without role models for opposite-sex relationships, has led to gender confusion. And the acceptance movement of LGBT is what is pushing transgender treatments of children. It's a straight line.

The supposed slippery slope was not only real, it was worse than anyone could have imagined.

Don't see how gay marriage causes that...

So you're actually claiming gay marriage causes kids to be transgender? That's quite a breakthrough discovery. Do you have any evidence of this? Studies? Stats on the occurrence of transgenderism in gay families compared to straight families? Any evidence for the claim that transgenderism is caused by lack of same sex role models?

If only you could read simple English, you'd already know that I didn't say gay marriage was the direct cause of gender dysphoria in children.
