I liked David Lynch's Dune! It had an otherworldliness that appealed to me. It wasn't just a conventional drama in a space setting. It was like looking in at exceedingly foreign cultures where even the littlest things seemed slightly... off. Which is exactly what we would expect in a galaxy-spanning culture with thousands of years separating them and us. We today would look considerably off to an ancient Roman in terms of dress, behavior, technology, fundamental assumptions and worldview, and Dune's galactic empire would be a much bigger chasm.
I think David Lynch succeeded in capturing a little of that. |
