Yet both Trump and Hochul have dramatically decreased crime.

DC crime was in a downward trend already. Trump had nothing to do with that.

"Violent crime is higher in Washington DC than the national average. But it is not among the most violent large cities in the United States today, and the number of incidents have been falling in Washington DC for about two years. Trump cited figures during the press conference from 2023, while ignoring precipitous drops in most categories of violent crime since. Violent crime overall was at a 30-year low on the day Trump took office this January."

When the murder rate often exceeds that of Bogota, Columbia, a 30 year low isn't saying much.
Notice how you can't argue that Trump hasn't lowered the crime rate.

And you can't argue that he did lower the crime rate. So why even bring it up?

He obviously did. Look it up.

No he didn't. I just posted that the crime rate was in a downward trend already. That is not proof of causation by any stretch.

LOL! Showing a chart by year when Trump only sent in the National Guard a month ago. 9_9

Crime in D.C. down across most categories

From Aug. 7 through Aug. 25, most major crime categories in Washington fell compared with the same period in 2024. Combined violent crime dropped 49%, from 180 to 92 incidents, while other categories such as robbery and burglary also saw significant declines, according to CBS News analysis of MPD data.
...
Violent crime, for example, in the two weeks prior to Aug. 7, was down about 20% already from the same period in prior years, according to the MPD data.

So even minus the 20% it was already down, over the same period the previous year, that still leaves a reduction of 29%.
Even the DC Democrat mayor admits crime is down because of Trump:
Bowser says federal police surge has reduced crime in DC

LOL This past month is part of this year's trend, which is steadily downward. We're talking about THIS year, not 2024. And whatever was and is causing DC violent crime to go down, it wasn't Trump sending in street-corner soldiers since it was going down all this year already. Take a statistics course sometime.

If you won't believe legacy news and the Democrat DC mayor, that's on you and your biased delusions.

"The crime rate in Washington, D.C. has declined in 2024 and 2025 due to a combination of focused law enforcement strategies, community-based violence interruption programs, and broader national trends. This reversal follows a significant spike in violent crime in 2023.

Policing and intervention strategies

Focused deterrence: Led by Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith, this strategy targets individuals at high risk of committing or being victimized by violence. It combines the threat of concentrated law enforcement action with offers of social services and counseling to provide a way out of a life of crime.

Community-based violence intervention: D.C.'s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) deploys trained violence interrupters to de-escalate conflicts and mediate disputes in key neighborhoods. The "Cure the Streets" program is a prominent example of this approach. In 2023, ONSE's priority communities saw a smaller increase in violent crime than the city as a whole.

Juvenile crime initiative: In response to rising juvenile crime, particularly carjackings, the city launched a Juvenile Investigative Response Unit in 2025. This unit aims to strengthen outreach to young people, connect them to a better path, and focus on those who repeatedly reoffend.

Targeted enforcement: Law enforcement has also focused on specific issues like the surge in carjackings that peaked in 2023. This targeted focus has contributed to a dramatic drop in carjacking numbers in 2024 and 2025.

Broader factors influencing crime trends

Mirroring a national trend: The recent drop in crime in D.C. aligns with a broader national decline in violence observed across many U.S. cities since 2023.

Economic support programs: Research suggests a link between economic hardship and crime motivated by material needs. Adjusting how Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are distributed, for example, has been shown to reduce grocery store crime. Such safety-net interventions can legitimately address some motivations for crime."

Gee...so the people that have been fighting crime for decades in DC now are actually the ones bringing down the crime rate! Who woulda thought?
