"Sources" tell NBC News that the F-15 that was shot down over Iran last month, leading to a dramatic rescue mission, was probably downed by a Chinese made shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile, probably a FN-6. The F15 must have been flying relatively slowly at low altitude in order to be downed by a MANPADS, which are more effective against helicopters and drones. Perhaps it was a ground attack mission.

Apparently low altitude is used to evade enemy radar and make more precise ground strikes.

Iran has fired several waves of missiles on northern Israel, in first attack since April ceasefire.
They say it is retaliation for Israeli attacks on Hezbollah in Beirut, further cementing that Hezbollah is a direct Iranian force.
The IRGC promised a full week of strikes, but most missiles have been intercepted and Israelis have already been told its safe to leave shelters.

An hour ago roughly, the Israelis launched airstrikes against several different targets in Iran. There were reports of unidentified jet aircraft in the sky over Iraq, believed to be Israeli. They appear to have launched air-launched cruise missiles from outside Iranian airspace to strike sites deeper in Iran associated with missiles that were launched at Israel earlier. A location near the city of Isfahan was definitely hit. There are also unconfirmed reports of explosions near the Tehran international airport.

In addition, Israel struck a petrochemical plant at Mahshar along the Persian Gulf coast.

And Iran has replied to that by firing several more waves of missiles at Israel, where sirens are blaring and intercepter missiles are launching.

Israeli air attacks on Iran might be continuing, as Iran's Mehr news is reporting Iranian air defenses firing over the Iranian city of Kermanshah in the last 30 minutes. Unclear if the Israelis were really attacking or if the Iranians were just panicked and firing wildly.

And now it's all the way to June, and these Iran War related tributaries keep flushing #### into the main river. The Strait still strangled in knots, with a potential midterms crisis less than five months away and Democrats fixated on flipping enough seats to impeach Trump yet again. (The 2024 shock reducing the DNC agenda down to such revenge being the only remaining purpose in life for it.) Not inevitable by any stretch, but should the worst come to pass for the GOP (losing dominance in the legislative branch), this war and its effects are what history will point to as the avalanche trigger or fatal Little Bighorn, Waterloo, Operation Barbarossa, etc.

Last night a US Army AH-64 Apache attack helicopter made a forced landing in the water in the Strait of Hormuz area. Both pilots were uninjured and have been recovered.

Their recovery was interesting. They were floating in the water in life-vests and were picked up by an American uncrewed Saronic Corsair autonomous drone boat! This is the first confirmation that US drone boats are operating in the area and the first instance of one saving downed airmen.

Since then, the US Central Command has revealed that the helicopter was downed by Iranian fire. As a result, the US began air strikes against various Iranian military sites along the Strait of Hormuz coast beginning about 5 PM Eastern time. There are reports of several explosions being heard in the small port of Sirik. I noticed these words in the Wikipedia article on Sirik: "To the northwest along the coast to Bandar-e-Abbas, there are thousands of hidden caves and valleys dotted around the horn of the Strait of Hormuz." And we can almost be certain that many of those caves contain Iranian rockets and drones.

The American Apache helicopter was escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. And apparently an Iranian Shahed drone crashed into the helicopter. Luckily the drone's warhead didn't detonate, but the collision forced the helicopter down into the Strait of Hormuz, where its two man crew was rescued by an American drone boat. Reportedly, while the drone boat does have autonomous capability, it was being operated by remote control at the time.

The US reply to the helicopter helicopter downing consisted of at least two waves of attacks and 20 Iranian targets were reportedly hit.

The Iranians predictably responded with rocket and drone attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain. Most of this was successfully intercepted, but video indicates that there was at least one impact in Bahrain. This apparently hit the US naval facility there, which was evacuated before the war. (The Iranians have boasted repeatedly of destroying the base, but they nevertheless keep firing at it.)

And President Trump has told Fox News that he is about ready to order air attacks on Iranian power plants and bridges. This afternoon his advisors have gathered at the White House Situation Room and Trump posted this: "They've taken too long to negotiate a deal that would've been great for them, now they will pay the price!!!"

And the US Central Command just posted that US air strikes on Iran have indeed begun, at 5:15 PM Eastern time.

The Iranians are reporting explosions in Fars province, outside Tehran and Iranian islands near the Strait of Hormuz. It's still unclear what kind of targets are being hit.
