Let’s say that it’s paranormal activity, if ghosts have no physical mass, how can they “clomp” up the stairs? Why would they need stairs? I’m open minded about ghosts possibly existing but I’m not willing to ignore that elephant in the room.

Indeed, how do ghosts move objects, bang on walls, open doors or touch eyewitnesses? The fact is that we just don't know enough about them to explain that. But that's certainly not a excuse for denying that they exist. As I've already pointed out, science studies alot of phenomena that they can't explain. Consciousness itself is a big one.

So we go strictly by the evidence here, not by what we would like them to be or assume they must be. Also we don't want to commit the fallacy of incredulity--that because we personally find something unbelievable or difficult to understand, that it therefore must not exist.

I said "clomping," not "clomping up the stairs." You can't even keep from straw manning the simplest of statements.

So, I've watched this a few times now, and it's interesting the different things you pick up each time. I didn't believe at first, that a deer could be making the ''clomping'' sound that has been suggested, but what we can't see, is how far down the staircase extends. It's too dark to see the full staircase, and it's entirely possible that a deer (sounds larger than say a raccoon) could have entered their basement (we have no information to indicate otherwise) and it's scurrying to find a way out. I'm not concluding that it's a deer but it could be, and I'm now considering this because we can't see the entire staircase.

I believe that the homeowner was genuinely spooked - but he could've been spooked by a random, strange sound in the house. I wouldn't make the leap to paranormal activity simply because I can't see to the end of the staircase. This said, I'm not sure a wild animal would pause after hearing the homeower say ''hello.'' Hmm...

It's of course entirely possible that it could be completely contrived, the homeowner's friend or family member is in the basement making these sounds, and the paranormal enthusiast community eats it up, without question.

I'm gonna go with 'not enough information.' Is there a follow up video (I suppose I could check) to this one, that the homeowner shares what the noise was? If I were that homeowner, I'd want to get to the bottom of what is in my basement. Even if I was standing there myself at the top of the stairs, I'm not sure how anyone could conclude without question, that the noise was coming from a ghost.

I've already totally debunked the clandestine deer break-in theory:

1) the initial banging sound is repeated and evenly spaced, entailing the deliberate action of a person. Deers don't do that.

2) the noise stops when he calls out. Deer don't do that.

3) the charging up the stairs noise gets louder and louder. Deers don't charge up stairs.

4) the charging entails an attempted attack on the man. Deers are shy and elusive. They don't do that.

5) man exclaims "oh my god!" indicating sudden shock. A mere deer wouldn't inspire that reaction.

6) not to mention the whole general implausibility of how a deer would get into someone's downstairs basement unnoticed to begin with.

Having watched just about every paranormal investigator TV series in the past 24 years, I can confidently say that the sound of footsteps on a stairs by a ghost is a commonly encountered event. Would posting more videos of unseen entities walking on stairs help persuade you it's paranormal? Or would it just increase the suspicion that it's all hoaxed?

In looking at the thread title, and this is just me, I don't think it's a good idea to start with ''ghost'' as the baseline. We don't know what this was. That said, I'm not sold on the idea of it being a deer, or any other animal, but there isn't enough to go on, to determine what this was.

I've watched this a few times just to see if I pick up something different,and I'm not hearing a charging up the stairs, to be honest. It sounds like something is scurrying downstairs, hard to pinpoint what it is, though. The homeowner's reaction could be simply fear from the sudden, loud noise emanating from downstairs. Again, we only see darkness from where he is standing on the stairwell, so it could be any number of things. We just can't see it, and he stops recording shortly after the ''footstep'' sound.

I agree that deer are usually shy, but if it's trying to get out of a house for example, feeling trapped, it might act in ways we haven't seen before. Deer visit my backyard all the time, and when I step out on my patio to take photos of them, they're frozen in place for a few minutes, until they see that I'm not going to approach or hurt them. So, in their own surroundings, that's true, they're shy.

That said though...

Since the homeowner has been complaining about these noises before this video was taken, I'd say it's likely not a deer but maybe another animal snuck in.

Of course, this could be a hoax, but of what? I don't come away from viewing this video assuming that the homeowner is living in a haunted house. The video doesn't offer proof of much, unfortunately. If it isn't something contrived, I'd like to know what other possibilities there are to explain the noises.

LOL Yeah..."banging animal that snuck into a basement charges upstairs unseen by homeowner" would've probably been a better thread title..

The thread title is exactly what it is compelling evidence of---paranormal activity. Just as it is with all my threads about ghosts. I'm not here to kowtow to dogmatic skeptics..

lol Just adding a question mark at the end of the title would suffice, to be honest. Because we don't know. Do you really believe with your whole heart, that it's a ghost, without hesitation? I'm open minded, you know that, but I'm just not hearing or seeing enough to determine what it could be. I don't think other plausible explanations have been remotely exhausted, is what I'm saying. A darkened stairwell, mysterious clomping-like sounds coming from the basement, and a startled homeowner doesn't tell much of a story. He should set up a camera in the basement overnight, for a few weeks, and see what happens.

Leigha is right because honestly no one can tell there’s anything ghostly in that vid.

Could just as easily be the two humans in the video are the ghosts and the barking dog, basement noise and stair clomping is from another realm? lol
