1950s stuffing fad returns: 13 die in southern California crash near Mexico border

25 was also the record for packing people into one phone booth back in 1959. While there was no space left for someone to answer the phone, a difference here is that the SUV did need room for the driver to operate. That's probably why a few more could not squeeze into the vehicle, along with the fact of the mid-20th-century fad not requiring the participants to be confined long enough to suffocate from absence of air pockets.

INTRO: At least 13 people have died and more were injured after an SUV collided with a trailer truck in southern California, near the US-Mexico border. Twenty-five people were said to have been travelling in the SUV, which would legally have had a capacity for eight or nine. Police say the vehicle drove directly into the path of the truck, which had a full load of gravel. The truck's driver suffered minor injuries... (MORE)

Cynical Sindee: Seeing horrific headlines of this type once again seems to hint that there's an administration no longer deterring illegals from being a danger to themselves (which also includes crossing hazardous terrain and water barriers on foot). Rogue vehicle transportation is a potential deadly menace to migrants and others -- whether furnished by voluntary crusaders, exploitive profiteers, hirees from a company or farm sent to ferry workers, etc.

Early 80’s, sitting in a McDonalds, Ford Econoline van pulls up outside window and 32 people got out. From newborns to great grandparents. Back then the driver was responsible for having passengers seatbelted but today only for the minors, at least here in Ontario.

Made me think of couple things. First is whether autonomous driven cars will detect more passengers than seatbelts and perhaps a little unrelated, why is it necessary for cars to travel at speeds much greater than the highest posted speed limits. With that in mind, will autonomous cars have limiters and sophisticated sensing devices that no one can override, or just not function should an override be attempted?

It's still not clear that either some or all personally owned, autonomous vehicles will be equipped with smart sensors to detect that passengers are following safety protocols, and will be programmed to refuse to run if those aren't followed.

Ironically, there's no guarantee in general that Adult Daycare is an inherent bureaucratic orientation that we can always rely upon even from progressives. For instance, if some hegemonic conspiracy academics start declaring that vehicle protections are white-male authoritarian devices for restraining the free-spirited behavior of minorities, women, LGBT+, and Greens -- then Party leaders will listen with doe-eyed attention as if hearing pronouncements from illustrious sages or prophets. Just crouch _X_ in social injustice rhetoric, and it will be reverently received as if revelation from the gods, no matter how much it is trawling the depths of stupidity.

CC, it’s good to vent sometimes Smile.

Here’s how it will go down..... all vehicles other than police or emergency will be governed to 120kmh which is the highest I’ve ever seen posted in Canada and that was on Vancouver Island. Police and emergency, no restrictions. Catching bad guys in a car chase shouldn’t result in really excessive speed. The first time a minority is caught trying to outrun all they have to do is claim their right to drive faster has been taken from them. Although if you’re in a car being chased by a bad guy then you might have a problem if you’re not a skilled driver.
