As good as a fan production can get in terms of scriptwriting, special effects, reproductions of the original sets / uniforms, use of the archetypal music, and volunteer actors. Vic Mignogna even bears a passing resemblance to William Shatner, with a slightly higher pitched voice. James Doohan's son Chris is actually playing Scotty. Grant Imahara of MythBusters does Sulu.

Though the casting choices of STC are arguably closer to impersonating the crew than that of the New Voyages, this too can still seem a bit odd at times. But character appearances are the least thing to be concerned about in either the older or the newer web series -- being impossible or a challenge to fulfill regardless of budget.

I watched all of TOS when I was in high school.  That and Rockfish (I hope to see who gets that reference) were mostly all I watched.   I think TOS is my favorite show off all time.

Yah, those "Gandy" episodes. They were running it on MeTV not too long ago; I guess it's on COZY-TV now. Rarely a dull moment with some of the regular and intermittent characters of that show.

No Scientology mocking episode to cause trouble with Hayes. I don't know if he was even into that yet back in the 70s (probably not). Plus, "Chef" was a regular voice-role in South Park, whereas Gandolf only appeared thrice in RF. So wouldn't be much to be riled about, anyway, when confined to a few guest appearances like that.

Hey CC, thanks for turning me on to this.

It's really surprisingly good, very professionally done. I just watched episode 1 and thought that the screen play and the effects were as good as the Original Series. Different actors playing the familiar old roles took some getting used to though. The younger William Shatner was Captain Kirk and Leonard Nemoy was Mr.Spock. Nobody else looks right in those roles. I liked Grant Imahara as Sulu though.

Astonishingly enough, they built their own duplication in Georgia of the '60s studio sets, rather than renting Elvis impersonator James Cawley's already existing platform in New York. The success of his earlier fan series (ST:NV) surely unofficially inspired STC, which got to enjoy from the start the level of special effects that the former only achieved in its mid to later years. Like Cawley in ST:NV, Vic Mignogna is more involved in STC than just playing Captain Kirk. (Cawley handed his own role over to a different actor as he aged).

Too busy catching up to slash binging on The Expanse, so I haven't gotten around yet to watching the two-part final episode ("To Boldly Go"), which concluded the series in 2017.
