I actually liked the film's detailed, whimsical recreation of the 1960s. That's where the F4 belongs in terms of when they were most popular, and it isolates them even more from the rest of the MCU (which is a good thing these days).
The Silver Surfer did get gender-flipped (played by Julia Garner of "Weapons" and "Ozark"), but the story is set in an alternate universe where the Surfer's lover Shalla-Bal twistingly takes his place. AFAIK, it's the first non-animated appearance of godzilla-tall Galactus.
Events throughout the film were completely insane in terms of science and tech credibility, but that's the inherent nature of a comic book. Pedro Pascal was alright as Reed Richards.
One glaring absence was the lack of snarky chemistry between Thing and the Human Torch, but there wouldn't have been enough free moments to squeeze that sophomoric farce in there, anyway. A continuing drawback of Marvel confining its top characters to movies (and superficial existences) instead of giving them extended time development in television shows. As a result, lesser status Daredevil has more of a complex life stretched out over 48 episodes (counting "Born Again").
