I agree, that's a very positive thing.
Of course the black market isn't going away. Given the high taxes and regulations, black market marijuana will continue to be cheaper. It will also be easier to buy in many neighborhoods (down on the street corner, as opposed to traveling to a dispensary miles away.)
Currently, the marijuana industry in California (all illegal) is estimated at over $10 billion. (Lots of that money flowing to the Mexican cartels.) It looks like legal marijuana might divert maybe half of that into legal channels.

True. Berkeley's city government for one has visions of dollar signs dancing in its head.

There's lots of hiring.

Marijuana lounges are coming soon. There's going to be a big legal marijuana agriculture industry. And the government is sprouting agencies filled with new government jobs to regulate this new industry.

ive met plenty of people who travel to the other side of the world just to sit in a marijuana cafe in amsterdam and have a coffee & a legal joint or cake etc...
generaly speaking illegal drugs require twice the purchase price to aquire because they are often funded with stolen property.
more soo in the herion, cocaine & methamphetamine where the physialogical addiction and total social discordia hold the user outside most socially controlled social circles that self regulate.
considering the black market production is a cash crop money gatherer to service illegal weapons & slave trading the more that is removed the better.
ligitimate illegal growers who only supply working class citizens and do not pay money back to violent gangs would be very small in number.
cluster bombs for the rich
street gangs for the poor...
economic reality...
only the ruling government(Republicans) has the ability to make laws.
from what i can tell the USA hightaxes are high because the USA lacks a properly built & properly run social welfare system.
this reality drives the market to seek to get rich quick by what ever means possible and mostly that is illegally or fraudulently.
thus taxes used to extort money off people to service power crazed corrupt officials who seek to line their own pockets.
matched at the same time with the other hand allowing companys to outsource their jobs and pay no tax at all which then destroys the national economy and market place.
the next big step is to legalise prostituion.
but the minority religous extremists who control the republican party will pull all their money from the power crazed fraudster politicians who run the political offices and so they will vote which ever way they are bribed to..
the dems hold the vast majority of moral authority funding and the majority citizen support.. so its a bit of a mess.
additionally the consumer market of the USA has been designed to take money away from where it originates in largest proportions.
rather than a single market price concept where the market and consumer is able to build wealth.
(much the opposite of what many centre right and alt right politicians claim)
it is designed in the opposite direction.
to extract as much money as possible as fast as possible. thus economys of scale ligitamised would mean new york unemployed should be paid about 4 times as much unemployment money as any other unemployed person as the cost of living is soo many more times higher(note extorted socialist fiscal ideology covering corrupt free market principals for control of as much money and power as possible)
this is a majour flaw in the national economic policy that syne has made a good point about in regard to pricing structures around socio-economic grouping(all be him attempting to disporove it probably)
