Yes, one-time allies can turn on you. It would be foolish and naive to always trust everyone based on the first good thing they did for you. Some of the best con men do exactly that, to earn your trust first.

I think "turn on you" includes a spectrum of behavior:

The phrase "turn on you" means to suddenly attack, criticize, or become hostile toward someone who was previously a friend or ally.

And:

France and the United States have been locked in a multi-layered diplomatic dispute that peaked after France publicly criticized the U.S. human rights record.

The UN Human Rights Dispute: In late July 2026, the French mission to the United Nations in Geneva published a post on X (formerly Twitter) under the hashtag "#AmericaAlone". Yeah, #AmericaAlone does not come from good allies.
