INTRO: Plaid Cymru has condemned what it described as “double standards” by the UK Government, accusing ministers of moral inconsistency in their response to recent US military action in Venezuela.
Ben Lake MP, Plaid Cymru’s foreign affairs spokesperson said the Prime Minister’s refusal to state whether US strikes breached the United Nations Charter stood in stark contrast to the Government’s unequivocal condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Plaid Cymru argued that such selective application of international law risks undermining the rules-based international order the UK claims to defend. Mr Lake said the UK must be prepared to challenge violations of international law “whether they be friend or foe”. He warned that failing to do so weakens global norms designed to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity.
[...] “When Russia violated Ukraine’s sovereignty, UK Government ministers rightly spoke with moral clarity, condemning it as an assault on the UN Charter and the foundations of a rules-based international order. The Government’s failure to condemn the United States for violating Venezuela’s sovereignty underlines a selective approach to those same principles. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, the UK must be unyielding in its commitment to a rules-based international order, no matter how imperfect it may be,” he added... ( MORE - details)

Apparently this guy doesn't understand the difference between a military invasion and a limited military operation.

I think it's because some people thought international law stood for something.
Fucking Kumbyah.

UN Charter Article 2(4): Prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.
Neither has occurred in Venezuela, as they retain their territory and had zero political freedom under a dictator.
Outside of the UN, only the OAS Charter has the US as a binding signatory. But Venezuela's membership in the OAS is in dispute:
On 28 April 2017, Venezuela notified the OAS of its denunciation of the Charter of the OAS, which as per Article 143 would lead to the withdrawal of Venezuela from the OAS effective two years from the date of notification.[29] During this period, the country did not plan on participating in the OAS.[83]

Neither has occurred in Venezuela, as they retain their territory and had zero political freedom under a dictator. So Putin snatches Zelensky and runs Ukraine.
Trump snatches Putin and seizes takes control of Russia AND Ukraine.
Makes sense to me.

What are you babbling about?
Ukraine ostensibly had free elections prior to the invasion... which is taking their territory.
It is not feasible to try taking Putin... from a nuclear power.
The smallest amount of common sense would tell you all this.

Sorry, the absurdity of it got the better of me. Any Trump follower can tell you how the results of elections are actually determined -
Quote:In 2021, The Republican Accountability Project estimated that [only] 6% of national Republicans politicians consistently stood-up for democracy.
Your choice of 'The result of an election' can be whatever you want it to be. Some countries just can't handle democracy .. I don't know where Venezuela fits on the curve but it would seem to be fairly low despite having so much in it's favour.
It's about oil. Realistically, will Trump's plans be good or bad for the people of Venezuala?

I know you don't know this, but the RAP, Lincoln Project, etc. are largely just old-school establishment neocons, war hawks, and RINOs who strike out over their loss of political power in the wake of Trump. This is obvious when the RAP rates the biggest RINOs as excellent, including Collins, Murkowski, Romney, etc.. It shows that their criteria is more closely aligned to Democrats than Republicans (which would be clear if they also rated Democrats).
You'll believe them... because you want to... and you'll sound ignorant.
When the international community largely agrees that Venezuela didn't have legit elections when Maduro took power, you're fighting the facts to question otherwise. To think you can compare that to the US, or any Western democracy, is pure ignorance (which you seem to admit in the case of Venezuela).
It's about oil insofar as Venezuela used to be the most prosperous country in South America, until they thought they could afford to try socialism... which got them a dictator. If you think they'd be better off left under Maduro... well, that's on you.
