Uh no. It's called having empathy and advocacy for groups that have been historically discriminated against, viciously stereotyped, and socially marginalized. Why should that even have to be defended?

I was like Bigfoot-sighting freaked out when I chanced across Speedy on television two or three weeks ago, going in sequence through the channels. But didn't have enough interest then to look for an explanation. Thanks to this thread, I no longer have to wonder.
C’mon CC show a little love for the much maligned Mexican mouse community. Their feelings are important.
Tried to pull plug on thread but too slow.
My 6 yr old grandkid visited us last week. First thing she asked me was if I would play Roadrunner cartoons on my IPad for her. I had showed them to her a year ago and she never forgot. Made my day.
On the downside she told me her kindergarten teacher told her there were no boy things or girl things. Maybe that’s what prompted me to get upset about woke culture this time around.
Trying to find some curmudgeon jokes.
Speedy has probably been back for a long time. But being one who doesn't keep up with cartoon news, my shock was due to believing that the Lord Protectors had successfully cancelled him permanently.

Savoir complex? That's the real stereotyping and offensiveness we should really be concerned with. It implies that other races are inferior and need white folks to save them. Even if they don't know they need saving.
Speedy Gonzales, Go Go Gophers, etc. are great cartoons.
Thomas Sowell: " The irony is that, like so many people who push identity politics, he was not really [culturally] part of the group that he was being so strident about."
It's not just the white philosopher kings exploiting their colonial (and thereby often anti-Western) guilt complex. But that's usually who one gets the feeling still wants to direct the overall show, since they introduced the original and most of the later stage intellectual props that these movements are descended from.

Not when the people you're trying to save don't care as much as you seem to.
That's you using them as a prop to make you feel good about yourself.
Using people like props is tokenism.

That Hispanics don't care about being discriminated against and stereotyped is a lie of the political right. It doesn't even make rational sense. Of course they care. To claim they don't is to dehumanize them. You need look no further than at the history of the Hispanic Civil Rights movement to see how much equality means to Hispanics and has always been fought for.

"The Hispanic community embarked on a social movement aimed at combating institutional racism, increasing cultural hegemony, and guaranteeing equal labor and political rights. The Chicano Movement sparked national conversations on the political and social autonomy of Hispanic groups everywhere in the United States. Similar to many civil rights and revolutionary movements in the 1960s, they also experienced heavy state surveillance and police brutality. They also produced nationally recognized personalities who came to symbolize the movement such as Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and Rosalio Munoz."--- https://prologue.blogs.archives.gov/2021...ed-states/

Moron, we're talking about cartoons, not discrimination.
And continuing to talk like the present is like the past just devalues any progress made. History is not the present.

We're talking about discrimination AND stereotyping. Or did you just conveniently skip over that part?

There is nothing discriminatory about a cartoon, moron. And stereotypes not only exist for a reason, these examples are actually positive ones that made for early exposure to these cultures. That's a positive thing.

“it’s a cartoon, if you take it too seriously, you’re in the wrong country."
Yeah, that really sounds like they need some white dude to come rescue them from the discrimination.
