Trump's speaking style explained by linguists

A while back I was given a birthday card with "All about you day" and a picture of a happy sloth surrounded by cake and booze. Nice!

So, looking at a few world 'figures' for whom every day is "all about me" day .. the North Korean guy, Xi Ping, Putin and (maybe) Trump.

Some might say that what is good for Trump is also good for Americans so the "all about Trump" thing is simply irrelevant while others just find it a bit icky. The 'ick' factor is a gut reaction - if you don't have it you'll be puzzled by the folks that do (and vice versa).

Are 'all about me' leaders, and maybe Trump in particular, a good thing or a bad thing?

Is it "all about me" when you create historically low minority unemployment (lowest overall in 50 years), lower taxes/raised incomes for working families, record low minority poverty rates, etc.? Now, this all could be toward the ends of self-aggrandizement, but when it helps the entire country as well, that can't be a bad thing, can it?

Compared to Xi, Kim, Putin, etc., who have killed political enemies, ruined their economies, invaded neighboring countries (or have designs to), the contrast seems clear, no matter the personal motivation. At the very least, objective results might be more significant than personal pathologizing.

We are going to see more of it as the election nears.

They can't run on their party's record over the last 3 1/2 years, because it's widely unpopular. People don't want four more years of the same (or worse). They can't run on Joe Biden's inspiring leadership qualities, because he doesn't have any and appears increasingly senile and unlikely to complete another term.

So the only remaining play in their playbook is to try to turn Trump into a caricature and then make the election all about supposed defects in his personality.

Trump would be best advised to keep the election focused on issues, where he's way ahead.

I don't rule out Biden getting a significant bump after the debates. Although a good performance on his part may seem preposterous, they've nevertheless had a team hard at work conditioning and repetitively drilling him for weeks, and his body will be flooded with attention-enhancing stimulants before stepping on stage.

And an aural bone-conducting device will surely be used -- not a medical implant, but maybe a hidden shoulders-wearable robust enough to transmit some degree of sound/advice through the intervening bone structure to his ears from the observing debate coaches that will replace the teleprompter of normal circumstances.

Although a device was ruled-out as a false claim four years ago, that opens a viable window for truly doing a mitigated version of it for a desperate situation like this, since the idea has already been publicly debunked.

And of course, the pro-Biden moderators will give Trump some special "home-cooking" on the "playing field", too. Especially via provocative tidbits that encourage him to erupt in a self-destructive spectacle.

Does the US have any credible fact checking going on? Like how many angels seen this year?

Seen from the outside one of the few reliable indicators of performance is National debt..
President Change Percentage
Joe Biden +16.67%
Donald J. Trump +40.43%
More: https://www.self.inc/info/us-debt-by-pre...al-deficit

The national debt is currently about $100k/ American. A married couple with two children .. about $400k.

You're also looking at huge increases in government spending due to the pandemic. That was not unique to the US government.

Kind'a still playing true or false..

And you increase the National Debt by 40%..

Allowing for Covid and tariffs on Chinese goods .. this all happened very quickly
The thing is .. which (and many other things) happened when and why?
Did (for example) Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods help or hurt the American economy?

The very simple fact is that the vast majority of Americans, including minorities, were doing way better under Trump. You can't nitpick that fact away.
It's like when Obama touted the stock market while he presided over an otherwise stagnant economy. Not all indicators are equally felt by the majority of average Americans. Might make good talking points, but doesn't change the facts they face every day.
