Hate to see no responses so…..Just out of curiosity…what is the likelihood of being marooned without clothing? Unless you were doing the jiggy when catastrophe struck you’re probably wearing some clothing. Also, does having short hair improve the odds by avoiding entanglement or the locks caught by a wild animal? Are a guy’s privates in more danger than a woman’s in the naked survival scenario? Should Lilly’s first action be to secure the eyeglasses somehow?

New 'Naked and Afraid' season filmed in Sabinoso Wilderness
https://www.yahoo.com/now/naked-afraid-s...00022.html

EXCERPT: The season premier takes a pair of au naturel survivalists from Europe to the tall, narrow mesas of the Sabinoso Wilderness, located roughly 50 miles east of Las Vegas, N.M.

It follows Lilly Jammerbund from Austria and Samuel Mouzer of the United Kingdom as they venture into the mountainous landscape of New Mexico. [Sam Mouzer is a 38-year-old mental health support worker in Brierley Hill, England. He has two children [...] he joined the British Army as a reconnaissance officer after graduating from Thorns Community College.]

Despite their extensive survival knowledge, this new, unfamiliar terrain proves to be a challenge for the first foreigners to take on 21 days in the American Southwest.

The episode was filmed in summer 2022. During filming, Mouzer found himself in a painful predicament when he suddenly burned his penis, according to a report from TMZ. According to the report, the pair were sleeping by a campfire when a hot coal popped, causing embers to land on what he referred to his "little soldier's helmet."

Discovery did not return requests for comment on the incident. ... (Supposedly can watch online anytime via Discovery Plus, free trial.)

Well that answers one question. Let’s hope rattlesnake doesn’t target the little soldier’s helmet also. Might present an interesting dilemma though, just thinking of an old joke I once heard. Or he dies.

Even when afflicted by the below and semi-starvation, Lilly made the equivalent of an archery three-pointer (...or was it a Hail Mary?..) when food mattered most.

With any luck the arrow found the producer of the show. Not a big fan of these types of shows, can you tell?

Never heard of Survival Lilly until a few days ago. Does she really know her stuff or do people just lead her along, humouring her? All the while there’s some entertainment value watching naïveté in action?  IOW your chances of learning survival skills from her are as good as learning how to golf from Dorf?

She's got cred in terms of skills, but the thyroid condition she has makes her vulnerable to the cold (that's what almost derailed her in this). In one area it might have been better at the start to be "dumb" -- like catching crayfish by hand rather than constructing and using an elaborate trap. (There's pain and misery in abundance, regardless, so worrying about pincers...?)

It was the guy (Sam, who doesn't have a major YouTube channel AFAIK) who seemed to be the constant chatterer, also arguably spending more time alone talking to the camera. Of course, how the studio edits the footage could have a lot to do with perception. His day job doubtless entails him to be a super-empath and verbalizer, too.

The "nakedness" did seem superfluous in the beginning -- like simply having the candidates go without shoes would have accomplished the same thing. But sunburn afflicts them more severely that way, and arachnids and insects can more easily contact the skin directly (Sam got stung several times by a scorpion at night). Lack of clothing also makes them more susceptible to the cold, although light clothing would only slightly mitigate that. There's also the potential psychological awkwardness with respect to a complete stranger as your partner, and a Truman Show crew filming you all the time -- though that's one of the chief items that buffs of this show obviously prepare for and adjust to in advance.

There's a few snippets of the show on the net - unfortunately none of Lilly and the link CC posted won't play in the UK.
It has elements in common with the Hunger Games (without clothes) - to be naked in a mosquito infested forest - who thought that would make a good show?
I'm pleased Lilly seems to have done well (survived) - she isn't hard to like.

EDIT: Hold on! This particular Twitter account may be UK oriented (or "other Anglophone" oriented), and has links of the rattlesnake video at a different provider than YouTube:

Do you have a VPN or effective proxy of any kind with a US location option, C2? Maybe you could mask your whereabouts that way and gain access to the video with the rattlesnake excerpt. Though I guess they've got better algorithms these day for discerning when a VPN is being used.

One thing I discovered is that the actual show bleeps out the coarse language, which the vid does not. I almost feel it must be a mandatory requirement in reality shows that the contestants use as many ###ts and ###ks as possible when referring to any incident or situation. Kind of like HBO has a similar quota for characters in its fictional programming (though that primarily consists of a monotonous use of ###k variations alone).
