The truth will hopefully out on this particular issue but the first thing I noticed on that twitter feed was the horrendous echo chamber with zero contrary opinion to the Musk character.and the perceived slight on Twitter.

The EU [supposedly] has much stricter standards that it forces social media platforms to comply to, which it has admonished X/Twitter about since a year ago (excerpts further down).
But the "no excuses" level of obligation for social media platforms in the EU actually comes early next year. Unlike what Wikipedia claims at bottom, they've apparently moved the 2024 deadline from January 1st to Feburary 17th, or it doesn't have maximum effectiveness until then.
If in reality the Digital Services Act is somewhat lacking teeth yet, then no surprise that -- due to its multiple radical transitional phases over the last year -- X is lagging behind in modifying itself to fit EU requirements (and maybe even its own guidelines). In comparison to other platforms that supposedly complied with respect to this episode.

Twitter has “huge work ahead” to meet its obligations under the Digital Services Act, Europe’s new platform regulation, said Thierry Breton, the EU’s digital chief, in a readout of his meeting with Musk.
“Twitter will have to implement transparent user policies, significantly reinforce content moderation and protect freedom of speech, tackle disinformation with resolve, and limit targeted advertising,” Breton said in a statement. “All of this requires sufficient AI and human resources, both in volumes and skills. During Wednesday’s meeting, Musk agreed to let EU officials “stress test” the social media platform for compliance with the DSA early next year, Breton added.
INTRO: Beginning Friday, August 25, users of X (formerly Twitter), TikTok and the other large social media apps in the European Union saw major changes to those platforms. The largest social media apps, search engines and app stores in the EU now fall under the jurisdiction of the Digital Services Act. Friday was the deadline set by the European Union for companies named Very Large Online Platforms or Very Large Online Search Engines to change how their AI and advertising work.
Two major effects of the DSA can be seen right away: increased scrutiny of the ways in which misinformation can spread and a return to chronological social media feeds as opposed to automated recommendations.
The online platforms affected are Alibaba AliExpress, Amazon Store, Apple AppStore, Booking.com, Facebook, Google Play, Google Maps, Google Shopping, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat, TikTok, X (listed as Twitter), Wikipedia, YouTube, the European clothing retailer Zalando, Bing and Google Search.
Affected service providers will have until 1 January 2024 to comply with its provisions. Popular online platforms and search engines will need to comply with their obligations four months after they have been designated as such by the EU Commission.

End of an era... X finally closed the former Twitter headquarters building in San Francisco today. The headquarters is moving to Austin Texas, while many of the SF employees were given the option to remain in the SF bay area if they choose to, where X will have new offices in Palo Alto I believe.
Palo Alto used to have Tesla's HQ, before Tesla moved to Austin. Tesla still occupies the old Tesla HQ campus though, not far from Stanford University. That location now houses the Teslabot robotics efforts. I don't know if X will share space there (I've heard that the owner of X knows Tesla's CEO) or whether it will occupy a different Palo Alto location. If the expensive boutiques and over priced restaurants don't choke you, Palo Alto is still very nice (if appallingly expensive).
Heaven only knows what will occupy the San Francisco building now. X didn't own it, but leased it from its owner. It's an older building that's extensively remodeled inside. Unfortunately, it's located in one of the worst imaginable neighborhoods in SF. The streets outside are more or less controlled by drug addicts and raving street-lunatics. Probably because it's across Market street from UN plaza (which has become a giant city-sanctioned homeless encampment and drug-mart), city hall and the state and federal buildings, all of whose social programs support the street-crazies. (If you subsidize something, you get more of it.) It's a very sordid and dangerous area for any normal people venturing out onto the sidewalk, especially if they are well dressed.
Given the high vacancy rates (30%+) in better office buildings in much safer and more attractive and upscale parts of downtown, it's hard to imagine any large high-profile tenant appearing who is willing to pay what this landlord probably wants. A number of small AI startups have given SF some life recently (attracted by the aura of OpenAI) but I don't expect any to locate around here. So I expect this building to be vacant for some time unless the federal/state/local government steps in and fills it with government employees or "nonprofits". (SF is Nancy Pelosi's and Kamala Harris' home base so it isn't unlikely.)
