Several countries have advised all of their citizens in Ukraine to leave immediately. The countries include China, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Serbia and Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is closing its embassy and the Belarussian embassy's webpage has gone offline. There are unconfirmed rumors of Russian forces gathering in Gomel Belarus and there's speculation that odds are increasing that Russia might have another go at attacking Kyiv. (Or maybe it's just a feint to draw Ukrainian soldiers away from the east, back to protect the capital.)

I believe that the shooters were Tajikistan soldiers. I don't know if this indicates that Russia is recruiting soldiers in Central Asia for its war in Ukraine or whether the soldiers were just there for training. Tajikistan has recently been fighting border battles with neighboring Kyrgyzstan. Tajikistan borders on Afghanistan and it has a serious jihadist problem.

The overall situation seems to be that the Ukrainians are making small gains and slow progress east of the Oskil. The Russians seem to have pulled together and regrouped their forces and are resisting effectively as they prepare defensive positions west of Svatove. The Ukrainians had pushed right up to the edge of Krimenna but the Russians seem to have pushed them back a ways, in order to create a defensive perimeter around the town. There has been little movement in the Siversk direction. The Russians seem to be devoting most of their attention to Bakhmut, but the Ukrainians are resisting pretty effectively. To the south in the Donetsk direction the Russians have advanced a few kilometers in a few places, but nothing big. I'm getting the feeling that they attack in this area (mostly using not-very-capable Donetsk People's Republic forces) in order to tie down lots of Ukrainian troops so as to make it easier to do things elsewhere.

In the south, the Zaporizhzhia direction is comparatively quiet on the ground although there have been air attacks overhead. In the Kherson direction the Russians appear to have stopped the recent Ukrainian advance but are unable to push the Ukrainians back, and the front lines are freezing in place again. That might literally happen when winter sets in soon. The whole war might kind of slow to a stop during the winter, as far as rapid movements on the map are concerned.

The Russians appear to have been using the airport for military purposes. Here's a recent satellite photo showing seven military helicopters on the ramp.
