You don't understand the difference between the United States as a government and the United States as a country do you?

Based on 2025-2026 reports, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that Canada can "no longer trust" the United States due to strained trade relations, U.S. tariffs, and shifts in foreign policy. He has urged Canadians to reduce reliance on the U.S. and focus on economic sovereignty, citing American actions as a "rupture" to Canada's economy.

So instead of shoring up Canada's economy or working to repair relations with the US, he just moved his family and investment to America... reshoring more wealth to the US he whines about.

When did they move to America? Before or after Trump started his 'things'? The 'problem with America' is recent and unpredicted (and unpredictable).

Mark Carney’s immediate family has not moved to the U.S. as a unit; however, significant parts of his personal and professional life were relocated there in late 2024 and early 2025.

Children: Two of Carney's four daughters live in the United States. His eldest daughter, Cleo, attends Harvard University, while another daughter also resides there.

Corporate Relocation (Oct–Dec 2024): As Chair of Brookfield Asset Management, Carney oversaw the move of the company’s headquarters from Toronto to New York City.
Asset Shift: Reports from April 2026 indicate that nearly all of Carney's multi-million dollar investment portfolio is held in U.S. assets.
Recent Employment: His wife was recently employed by a U.S.-based company.

Trump started his trade war in February 2025. If a 'reasonable person' could be expected to anticipate Trump's actions then it looks very suspicious.. if Trump is an unpredictable genius then he just got caught out by Trump's cleverness.

A Canadian PM investing in the US, instead of helping the Canadian economy, at any time, should be a red flag. He obviously lacks confidence in his own country's economy and education.
