If that's your outlook, I pity you.

If/when the population at large loses faith in the police then maybe guns on the street are the only answer.
I wonder if foreigners know any responsible gun owners. They always seem to think the US is the wild west, even in the best of times.

The population at large hasn't lost faith in the police. I'd say most reasonable minded people believe reform needs to be made, but only the extremists feel that defunding and dismantling the police is a good idea. Don't believe all the media hysteria.  Wink

Should I pity those who don’t recognize facetious remarks and maybe that’s a bigger problem than we think in a country devoid of humour? People with zero intent of upsetting the apple cart might do so in a situation where every word uttered is scrutinized.

Apparently someone's never heard of Poe's law.

It’s hard to put the inflection of the voice into an internet note. Even eye roll emoji can be misunderstood, so why use it? Goes with anonymity I suppose.

Some extremists have found their way into city councils. Next election might change that if this keeps up.

Nothing at all. Not even reform, because everyone's been far too busy virtue-signalling to come up with a concrete plan for reform. As if any of their radical constituents would accept any half-measure like reform.
This is just the latest in a long list of Democrat promises that string their voters along for zero payoff.
