Which statement is false?

#1
Question  Leigha Offline
Thought we could have a bit of fun with this game where we have four statements relating to science (must be science related, hence the subforum I chose to post this) but one of those statements is false. I'll go first, and whoever guesses it correctly, needs to post four statements of their own, one of those statements being false, and so on...

Here we go:

Which of the following statements is false?

1. There are 8 times as many atoms in a teaspoonful of water as there are teaspoonfuls of water in the Atlantic ocean.

2. In an entire lifetime, the average person walks the equivalent of 25 times around the world.

3. Killer whales are actually dolphins.

4. When Helium is cooled to almost absolute zero (-460°F or -273°C, the lowest temperature possible), it becomes a liquid with surprising properties: it flows against gravity and will start running up and over the lip of a glass container.

Assuming the "other place" has already scored (i.e., become an accidental spoiler threat), I'll half-jump to the next round with something that will be different from whatever follows there. Leaving the above untouched so that any non-gadabouts can still respond to it, too.

1. The platypus has two stomachs.

2. During tournament play, an elite chess player could burn up to 6,000 calories in a day while sitting without vigorous movement.

3. Mallards are notorious for hybridizing with other species of ducks.

4. The planet mercury has ice on its surface.

Spoiler alert!!!!!

I'm thinking #2. I don't think an average human walks the equivalent of 25 times around earth. I could be wrong though. Ok..so I cheated a little and looked up the teaspoon of water stat. That one is so amazing I posted it on my facebook page and got 7 likes for it! I already know about liquid helium. And a killer whale does resemble a dolphin.

Well done! It’s actually five times not 25, in a lifetime, that the average person will walk around the world. I liked that water stat too Big Grin

Now, I need to ponder CC’s when I have some time, later.
