Record-Busting Star Explosion Baffles Sky Watchers
http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2...y-watchers

EXCERPT: The recently discovered inferno is about 200 times more powerful than a typical exploding star, or supernova, and 570 billion times brighter than our sun. [...] Astronomers describe their finding in a study published Thursday in the journal Science. Even though it's the brightest supernova on record — if indeed it is a supernova — it can't be seen with the naked eye from Earth, since it is 3.8 billion light-years away....

DNA nanotechnology controls which molecules enter cells
http://www.foresight.org/nanodot/?p=6950

EXCERPT: A useful addition to the toolkits for nanomedicine and synthetic biology would be a cell membrane pore to exclude or admit predetermined molecules on demand. A hat tip to Kurzweil Accelerating Intelligence for describing and pointing to this UCL news release “DNA ‘building blocks’ pave the way for improved drug delivery“....

I heard that story on the radio.  It could be a quasar, an old term from several decades ago that has recently been rehabilitated.  A quasar is term for what we now know as a black hole that is very actively converting matter to energy, emitting often extremely powerful electromagnetic radiation in the process.  Speculation presently is that the mass undergoing such conversion could be a star.
