It could be a quasar, an old term from several decades ago that has recently been rehabilitated. A quasar is term for what we now know as a black hole that is very actively converting matter to energy, emitting often extremely powerful electromagnetic radiation in the process. Speculation presently is that the mass undergoing such conversion could be a star. |
