Kincade Fire

Here's the latest news I could find about power restoration in Mendocino County, which has been entirely in the dark. It's not funny, since they say that temperatures will dip into the 30's tonight.

They are restoring power along the coast, from south to north, tonight and tomorrow AM. Then they will power up Ukiah tomorrow PM. Then Willits and Ft. Bragg. It sounds like it will be mostly back by this time tomorrow.

Wednesday AM Kincade update. Evacuation orders and warnings unchanged, but things seem to be quieting down. Fire now 30% contained. Current count is 206 structures destroyed, 94 of which are residential, 7 commercial, the rest outbuildings and so on.

Spot on.

Up and running and things are slowly but surely returning to normal. Evacuations are being lifted and the fire is 60% contained.

It's difficult to sift through all the fake news during an emergency.

Much obliged!

Thanks again, Yazata!

Oh, Yazata, I forgot to tell you about the electric car dilemma. Silly me, I noticed a charging station setup with a large generator. At first, I thought people were charging their phones. I was wondering why they were sitting in their car for so long there in a parking lot when they could have just charged them in their cars but the charging station was for their cars, duh!

Tesla sent out a warning to charge your car prior to the shut off but can you imagine getting a notice to evacuate and then being stuck in traffic. Pretty scary.

MY daughter has friends in British Columbia who leave today for wine tasting tours in the Napa Valley. Not sure how close that is to fires or power outages. Does that give you comfort, knowing the wine/tourists may mean more than fire, electricity, displacement, property & lives?

It's the largest employer in the Napa region. People need jobs, right? I'm sure the locals love gullible wine snobs that pay a fortune for a name. Some of those places charge $50 for three tiny pours. We have places here that are still free and events where all the wine tasting of local wineries are completley free. Napa residents usually come here.

Napa residents know a good bargain. Niagara, where I live, is also a wine Mecca. Locals here seem to like Australian a lot. Wineries everywhere, all looking for tourist bucks. Friend of mine has grape picking machine operators licence and has been very busy last couple days because big weather change coming. No fires however, and lots of hydro. Best of luck to Californians.

The Kincade fire was some distance away. There was an evacuation warning in northern Napa County, Calistoga I think. Just in case the winds shifted and the fire headed southeast. But evacuation was never ordered there. Things seem to be getting under control now.

Electricity outages are another matter. I expect that most of Napa county was blacked out. But electricity is returning and things should be ok. Things might not be functioning as smoothly as normal though. Stores might need restocking of perishable goods. Restaurants may be struggling a bit.

Like SS says, they live off tourists. They will be happy to see visitors returning. They need the revenues that visitors bring.

The piece goes on about how the library bought 500 goats in May to chomped through the brush to create a fire break.  Only useful as a preventative measure however.

I saw that. Pretty cool, eh?

I’m a neat freak. As soon as I received the notice that the power was being shut off, I started cleaning. My house was spotless but I was bored shitless. I couldn’t surf the web, watch T.V. or read.

I had a candle lit in my windowsill and noticed the ghosting effects from the internal reflection between the two window panes. I took a few pictures. The diagram below explains it nicely.

I know that he’s Yazata’s hero and I’ve capped on him a time or two…but interestingly, this effect was causing some issues with Tesla’s Model X. It has a nice big curved window, but at night the angle was causing drivers to experience double vision, and even more so for taller drivers.

Here’s a video looking out through the Tesla window at night.

Yeah, I know, I’m a little weird...but hey, like I said, I was really bored.  Undecided

California is a failed state. Homelessness, housing shortages, wildfires, neglected infrastructure...while they rack up huge debt on god knows what and rich leftist elites and celebs lecture the rest of the country. How much will it take for people to quit voting in useless Democrats?
