It's a big fire burning in much of El Dorado county from the eastern exurban fringes of the Sacramento metropolitan area in the west almost to Lake Tahoe in the east. It's an area where my family and I spent time when I was a youth (triassic era). My brother got married here.
126,000 acres, 12% containment. 2,663 firemen, 243 engines, 18 helicopters, 51 dozers, 465 single residences destroyed, 11 commercial buildings destroyed, 167 minor structures, 17,488 structures threatened.
Air quality in the Tahoe basin is a real problem, since smoke is blowing northeastwards and is being trapped there. They say that they will start evacuating the Lake Tahoe area (a major resort area) if the fire crests the Sierra mountains. Smoke is also blanketing nearby Reno where people are being advised to stay indoors.
