It's weird how you can go from wanting to be understood, and passionate about getting your point across, to people of different mindsets. You start off with this open minded attitude, and then as time goes on, you realize you're trapped in an echo chamber of arrogant know it alls, who really deflate the interest you once had. It's healthy and fun to have disagreements, but I remember why I left SF, now. lol It's boring, for the most part. Echo chambers usually are.

I don't know why a moderator or administrator would want to encourage that. You're only hurting your own site's ability to draw diverse opinions, which is honestly what keeps sites alive. Echo chambers kill sites.

That's why I don't post there or here much anymore. Syne has ruined this forum with his incessant bitching and petty drama. He basically turns this forum into a platform for his own alt right talking points. And if you disagree with them he just insults and ad homs you until you get tired of it and quit responding. Over in SF everything is about confrontation and attacking your words. The mods over there are actually the instigators of that BS as well as the chief purveyors of it. I like to discuss online like I discuss in person, with a relaxed and casual sharing of ideas and perspectives that is friendly and respectful. That's why I like your threads so much. Failing that, I simply go into lurker mode. Or else go hang out on Facebook where people are civil.

Yea, I don't know why things escalate to ad homs and such over there. Honestly, I feel like I've always been respectful to whomever I'm ''debating'', even insert humor where I can, as if to say...hey, this isn't the end of the world if we disagreeRolleyes

My posting here is actually a healthy sign that this isn't entirely an echo chamber.

The only one bitching is you...usually about some imagined slight you either never can or bother to detail. IOW, it's all in your head...to justify your own projected whining. You still have no clue what "alt-right" means, other than some farcical boogeyman of everyone to the right of Hillary Clinton. As you've repeatedly been told (an never successfully shown otherwise), I typically only insult in response to, mostly your, insults. Again, you insult to justify your own projected insults. It's sadly transparent.

But we do agree about the mods at SF. They amplify any naturally occurring conflict instead of, as the title implies, moderating it.

If you make unsupported claims and insult people for doubting, in person, it's no wonder you're such a shut-in. By all means, stick to your highly-curated social media, and only lurk where conflict might occur like you do the real world/people beyond your front door.

@ Yazata, if the science/religion thread were a baseball game, you my friend, would have hit a home run today. Big Grin

You know you a hit a home run, when immediately following, is a poster so filled with anger that he can't help but tell you how wrong you are. I've decided that I won't reply to angry outbursts and tantrum-like posts anymore. They hate religion because it ''dictates,'' yet they want to dictate to us, our worldview? Pfft.

Not that I'm religious, but I believe in God, and some there can't separate the two.

I think that atheists and believers have unrealistic expectations of one another, when approaching discussions that center around faith. I can't do the circle jerk anymore, it's just too boring.

Milestones

Many years ago (actually about 50 years ago) my mother told me I would have to work for the next 50 years so I'd better get used to the idea. She was referring to the fact that men (then) retired at the age of 65. When you're young anything '50 years' is a curse. I have to admit I later interpreted 'work' as 'somehow finding enough money to pay for booze, drugs, women, food and a place to live'. I mention this only because, for me, my mother's curse ends in 2 minutes.

Sushi sounds so good right now. Maybe raw salmon rolls for dinner. Hmm.

Happy Friday, comrades. Smile
