Flamin' Hot Cheetos fad

"Flamin' Hot Cheetos, the munchies staple, has become something of a pop culture sensation lately, with songs, pop-up shops, and even an upcoming major motion picture being made in their honor. Still, you might think that the news that the snack had put someone in the hospital might put a damper on all of this enthusiasm.

That is, until you learn that this isn’t the first time the spicy cheese dusted chip has been linked to a medical emergency. For a little while now, the snack has been the subject of blame for a number of hospital trips for symptoms ranging from blood in vomit and stool to gallbladder problems.

Speaking with Billboard, a gastroenterologist weighed in to provide insight into why the spicy snack might be making people puke blood. For starters, he began by casting some doubt on that idea, suggesting that it is actually the red dyes that can often be found in spicy foods that is being mistaken for blood.

“Overeating anything can cause GI intolerance or gastrointestinal symptoms and any number of other symptoms, vomiting among them,” he said, adding that while spicy foods can land people in the hospital, it most likely is an issue of volume.

As for Lil’ Xan, the lesson didn’t seem to be learned. The rapper told TMZ he was not going to give up the snack (which he called “one hell of a drug”) any time soon. We just hope he learns how to develop some sense of moderation."
