Catch 22

Catch 22:
Quote:a dilemma or difficult circumstance from which there is no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent conditions:

Today on another thread I mentioned that it appears I was able to rid myself of receiving Tea Party emails. However the only way it could be done officially was if they verified my unsubscribing......by email of course.
OK, maybe that 's not quite a Catch 22 by definition...idk. Perhaps the most common example of a Catch 22 is applying for a job and being rejected for not having any experience which is impossible to get unless you have a job.
Just appealing to the membership as to whether they have had any experience(s) re Catch 22 that they would care to share with us.

Yep, assertiveness.  If you’re too nice, you’re weak or manipulative. If you call people out on their shit then you’re a point scoring cunt.

Did you see that that fucking duck banned me?

http://www.thescienceforum.com/physics/4...-once.html

I think he’s used to dealing with women like babe. "Oh, ducky, we miss you." Fuck that shit!

Did you see what happened? It was a while back but geordief did tell me to go fuck myself, and why? For calling out Dywwyddyr on his stupidity.

All I did was quote his little "go fuck yourself," and asked if his remark was misplaced, but then said luckily for him I’m not a point scoring cunt. I just play one on T.V.  Big Grin

Oh my god, shoot me. I answered his stupid question, didn't I?

Dywwyddyr deleted it, and in red, said that wasn’t the sort of remark they were looking for. So, I edited and deleted his remarks and said it wasn't what I was looking for due to the lack wit.

Fucking little sucktit bitches banned me. They can dish out but they can’t take it.

Oh and BTW, I was just teasing you.

SS, I'm somewhat with you on the speed of light. Might be fun to try a twin paradox right here on this forum (in the fullness of time). My QED is solely QED the book by Feynman + 5 years thinking about it. But yes, I do agree a photon has no particular (<< like a particle) form or existence until detected so it cannot be absorbed (as a particle) and re-emitted (as a particle) when it has no existence beyond "shut up and calculate" sum of all paths.

I'm busy with some software until Sunday - maybe after that if I can find and kill a whole heap of little bugs.

Yeah, I have a lot work that I need to catch up on, too.

Sounds good, C2.

See you later.

From recent events...

Asking Kavanaugh if he wants Mike Judge (an accused accomplice) to testify before the Senate committee. He rightly avoided the question. If he had said yes, the democrats would have said even he was demanding a longer investigation, delaying his confirmation until after the mid-terms...when they hope to take over the House. If he had said no, the democrats would have taken that as proof he was trying to cover something up...demanding the same delaying investigation.

It's like being asked if you've quit beating your wife. Yes means you use to, and no means you still do.

You were gassed again? I'm chuckling inside.

So when you're bad you get gunned and when you're told to correct that by being nice, you get suspended as well.

Ahhh, you'll get over it.  Wink

On with the show....
When I was young I worked as a gas fitter for local utility. The rule was steel toed shoes had to be worn at all times while performing work or face suspension. However part of the job required entering the customer's home. The same manual said we were to remove our shoes if there was a chance we could soil or damage a customer's house by wearing them.

There was this recent little ditty in terms of being figuratively pilloried if you don't apologize and receiving public caning if you do. (Probably a weekly cornucopia of potential examples yielded by the disparate tensions in neo-Puritanism and its call-out vigilantism.)

Astronaut Scott Kelly attacked for quoting Winston Churchill
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45789819

EXCERPT: One of the unwritten rules of social media is avoid inspirational quotes. American astronaut Scott Kelly put that to the test on Sunday when his use of Winston Churchill quotes landed him in hot water with people who oppose the wartime British prime minister's views on empire and race. But when Kelly tried to apologise for the tweet and offered to educate himself, Churchill fans attacked him for discrediting the politician's record....

Maybe we could modify the definition of Catch-22 to read : a situation where one can't win. (e.g. lose/lose proposition)

I was thinking, C2, and no offense, but I watched you do that for years with RP. It was kind of like watching a badminton game. Instead of thinking about the twin paradox, could we think about the wave/particle paradox?

I worked my ass off yesterday so I might have time later to throw up a far out there "what if" type question that’s in line with your photon having no particular (<< like a particle) form or existence until detected so it cannot be absorbed (as a particle) and re-emitted (as a particle) when it has no existence.

No hurry, though.

Remembering Cecil the Lion, hunted and killed by a Minnesotan dentist 3 years ago. Animal activists had a field day and one of the groups was of the opinion that the killing of Cecil was justified. Is it a classic Catch 22, advocating the reduction of prey animal deaths by killing the predator?

A look at both sides of animal activist argument:

https://qz.com/497675/to-truly-end-anima...-the-lion/

Excerpt: By killing predators, we can save the lives of the many prey animals like wildebeests, zebras, and buffalos in the local area that would otherwise be killed in order to keep the animals at the top of the food chain alive. And there’s no reason for considering the lives of predators like lions to be more important than the lives of their prey.
