Yep. I had a very close friend who went through something similar (a lot worse actually) and didn't tell anyone for years. She told herself that it was her fault, that she wasn't strong enough/smart enough to avoid it, and couldn't bear what people would think of her as a result. And she believed what he told her. She is now a pretty fierce advocate for women who have been sexually assaulted and raped in academia.
