This explains why when humans are amassed like cattle into ideological movements and sports arenas and protest mobs and even black Friday shopping crowds that the moral behavior drops significantly. Everybody gets freed from their own principles and becomes just an anonymous member of a powerful entity, guided only by whatever is most popular and believed by the rest of the others. The bar for what is permissible sinks to the lowest common denominator.
