With respect to the "fantasy" complaint... It was never a "hard" science fiction show, though. Had abundant pseudoscience through and through. And even a reboot of the character, in order to rescue the franchise, is probably wishful thinking at this point. If AMC was the new American partner for such, it would still be BBC politics recklessly running the direction of the show, unless the former made pre-conditional demands. ........ VIDEO EXCERPTS: We just got breaking confirmation that Doctor Who is dead in its current form. [...] Disney lost a ton of money on this Russia T. Davies "Doctor Who". Nobody was watching it. That's what it came down to. They gas lit us about this. If you remember...
As it went on, Russell T. Davies' writing just got worse. Even lashing out at the fans. You could tell that there were episodes that were basically calling Doctor Who fans incels, etc. Attacking people just for caring about the show.
And it's like, dude, what is wrong with you? Like, you've made a whole career off of us and this is how you really think of us? That's why the fans tuned out. Even if people really didn't get that kind of messaging that's layered into it, it still subconsciously felt bad.
[...] Now, this week, we had more confirmation that nobody was willing to play The Doctor. Because it's it's viewed as box office poison. Like it would kill their careers at this point because of how bad things have gone for Jodie Whitaker and Ncuti Gatwa. Oops. They [the studio] really screwed things up.
And the reason they screwed it up is they forgot this was a science fiction show [...] they wanted to make it more fantasy-like. The next thing that they did was push identity politics through. Everything just turned off a larger segment of the audience. It was a terrible drop in quality. The actors then paid the consequences for this. So, that's where we're at.
[...] As we heard, they're quietly cancelling the Christmas special or moving it to Easter. Again, they weren't able to find anyone to play the Doctor.
[...] So, Russell T. Davis ... torched this entire franchise over the last couple of years. And he really torched it. It was all him. This was his direction. He hired a full staff of LGBTQ writers to just push only that agenda rather than actually focus on science fiction, like the old show used to do.
And it really showed this is what they did. This is the consequences of it. And the whole franchise is basically on fire right now. The TARDIS is just burning down. That's where we're at.
So what does this mean? We know that of course this 2026 Christmas special is not happening. There's no possible way it's going to get done at this point.
[...] From what my sources say, the same ones, there are reboots coming ... they're just going to start from scratch, pretend none of this stuff happened, and just have the Doctor start over. ... They're looking for an American partner to pay the bills on this.
Another thing that developed this last month was that AMC bought the rights to the 2005 Doctor Who catalog from Christopher Eccleston onward. ... Now AMC might actually partner with them and do this [the reboot]. And if AMC's in charge and they hold the cards, they might actually do a good job.
Now it's going to feel bad for a lot of old-time fans to have the show completely reboot. But it's probably better than actually continuing on from this nonsense. it really destroyed the franchise and you're seeing the results of that right now.
Well, Russ T. Davies, I hope you're happy with yourself for what you did to this stuff. It wasn't the fans, it wasn't the toxic internet or anything like that. It was just us actually trying to care to have a good show and you refused to provide it for us.
