VIDEO INTRO: There have been some on the right who say the MAGA movement will not outlast Trump and the the GOP is going to return to the Dubya, John McCain, Mitt Romney style party in the near future. Why do you believe the Trump shift within the party is permanent?
Well, for two reasons. Number one is President Trump has shown us what's possible. For decades, frankly, since I got involved in conservative politics in the '90s, we have been given excuses as to why we couldn't get things done. And what Trump has shown us is that leadership matters.
So you take the border, for example. Biden told us over and over again that we needed a legislative fix. Trump showed us that wasn't true.
Why I say permanent, is because of the culture shifts. What he has done in education, higher education and corporate America, rooting out DEI, what he has done on the border, what he has done on trade. So all of that previous posturing by Republicans, where they would say: We can't do it and here's why... That is now out the door.
We on the right are going to expect more going forward from whoever the standard bearer is. So Trump may not be in office, and it may not be he same tactic as Trump, but I think we're going to hold a pretty high bar to anyone who's following him.
So on that topic of who's following him, I know you've talked about this on your program quite a bit. I want to get your take on 2028. JD Vance, Marco Rubio, they're saying all the right stuff. They're being team players. But what are you hearing from Trump world about that jockeying?
Well, first of all, I would love if they were actual team players, meaning I think that JD Vance running and Marco as his running mate would be a great team.
[...] Marco Rubio is the Secretary of State. He is bound by the Hatch Act. He has no political apparatus. So, in order for him to even think about running, he would have to resign. And that would be the biggest tell. Right now, JD Vance has all of the institutional benefits...
