Kind of weird that pride is in and of itself a source of pride.
An interpretation (probably wrong*) is that in 2021 the dems were assuming things would get better (they didn't) while the republicans were assuming (correctly) that nothing would change.. Biden simply set the scene for Trump's landslide victory with almost 50% of the votes cast.
* this is an invitation to give a better interpretation.. personally I also like CC's suggestion that Trump has a sufficiently high ick factor for many people to be ashamed of even living in the same country.

Depends on whether you can separate being American (or substitute your own nationality) from the current political climate of America. Republicans are clearly proud to be American, regardless of who has political power. The same cannot be said of Democrats. That makes their pride, of who they are as Americans, completely dependent upon if they perceive themselves to be winning politically.
That means they are more proud of winning or being in control than they are of the history and accomplishments of their country as a whole. To me, that sounds narcissistic and antithetical to patriotism of national loyalty. But then, the left doesn't value loyalty (only valuing half of the moral foundations).
And don't tell MR he can't be proud of Pride. It is currently LGBT Pride month in the US.

Possibly Republicans already have what they value .. guns, capitalism and no universal healthcare. For democrats perhaps their pride relies on the possibility of change .. currently zero.

Under Obama and Biden, we also had Obamacare (state-funded healthcare passed without a single Republican), millions of illegals crossed into our country, government targeting, persecution, and illegal censorship of conservatives, etc..
Our pride is not dependent upon election outcomes. If Democrats are only proud of our country the more is moves away from the Constitution, that literally means they don't like America.
Why? Is your pride as a Brit (if you have any) based solely on which party is in power?

Not so much a cause as a symptom..
from AI
"The vast majority of advanced, developed nations have universal healthcare. In fact, out of 38 highly developed member countries in the OECD, all but one (the United States) have established health systems that guarantee coverage for their entire populations."
The US is very different from other 'highly developed' countries..how proud people are of this, not surprisingly, seems to vary by political party and the perceived possibility of change.

I'd say that pride in as a person in a country is dependent on if the country holds up to your own egocentric moral values (or the absence of them in some peoples cases). Pride isn't a group, it's not a nationalised party, its whether you personally get what you want out of it.
That being said, it can mean that people that assume they have pride, actually have something entirely different, such as delusional belief, denialism or just pure destain.

So when your values are the ones that move away from those of your own country, it's on you for no longer sharing the long history of national pride.

Nations come and go over time, people remain.
For instance the US history is it truly one that would be of pride or condemnation?
I mean the birth of the country came from robbing the territory from another country. From slowly eroding trust, sowing the seeds of discord and rigging the perspective while of course utilising the various problems in the world as an advantage to get the result. (Such as the problems in Ireland, Wars with the French and Spanish, and immigration from other countries that wanted a slice)
Sure you can have pride that you took a country but it doesn't make you the good guys in that story.

No, there was no country in North America prior to the US. Conflating territory control, fledgling colonies, or native nations, that had no fixed borders or sense of statehood, with a country is purely ahistorical. I get that you're jealous of US success and power, and feel the need to tear it down to make yourself feel better... about your own country, ideology, and/or yourself. Sure, tell yourself that the people, who we've shouldered the burden of protecting for decades with little to no appreciation or respect, are the ones whose trust was eroded.
What makes America the good guys is having a Constitution so robust that it is the single, oldest, and longest-serving constitution in history. One designed with the means to end slavery. That the US has led the way to more prosperity for the entire world than any other country in history. That the US has led to the most global security in history. You don't get so many win-win circumstances without good people making good decisions (or at least having the underlying structure to incentivize such good decisions).
If I lived in another country, I'd want to emulate the US, especially its constitution. Barring that, I would want to have friendly relationships with the Americans who vote and shape US foreign policy, instead of disrespecting them at every opportunity and lose all potential influence. My Facebook page has been flooded with foreigners, including Brits, who have come here for the World Cup games and been very gushing about all the great things they've never known about the US. You know, if you want to talk about perspective.
