Like many historic places where migratory cultures merged, the Isles have become a melting pot of innovation. I'm amazed by the number of constant, daily violent attacks appearing in UK news, and their resulting injuries and murders. It's like a trip back in time to the medieval era, and a reminder that humans successfully found ways to slaughter each other for thousands of years, before the late advent of guns.

Police are seeking a man who they have said “should not be approached” after a woman was stabbed in an early-hours attack. Cops are appealing for help tracking down 21-year-old Deara Sadiq in connection with the incident which took place in Coventry in the early hours of this morning.

A woman in her 20s was found with multiple stab injuries and rushed to the hospital where she remains in a serious condition this evening, Coventry Live reports. Detectives named 21-year-old Deara Sadiq as their prime suspect and warned he should not be approached. Anyone who spots him should call 999.

West Midlands Police said: “We are appealing for help to trace this man after a woman has been seriously injured following a stabbing in Coventry today (February 18). We were called to an address in Swanswell Street at just before 4.30am. A woman in her 20s was discovered with multiple stab wounds and was rushed to the hospital where she remains in a serious condition. Following enquiries, we have established Deara Sadiq as our prime suspect. Sadiq is from the Coventry area, and we would ask anyone with information to contact us, rather than approach him. You can do this via 999 and quote 20/151390/26.”

UK citizens aren't allowed to protect themselves, even with a knife, but criminals sure will use them against you.
Apparently criminals murdering is the status quo to "keep calm and carry on" about, while they keep further disarming law-abiding citizens.

Possibly you've been mislead .. ?

Wikipedia..
Quote:Country (rate per ?)
United Kingdom *. England and Wales (1.148)
United States * (5.763)
Google
Quote:Homicide rates in England and Wales have fallen to their lowest level in nearly 50 years, with 499 victims recorded in the year to September 2024, a 7% decrease. The rate is currently 9.5 per million population (2023/24), with Scotland having a higher rate (10.3). Most victims are male, while females are more likely to be killed by partners.

Maybe wrong, Syne might know, but I think self defence killings in USA are ruled (justifiable?)homicides. Whether that’s part of the stats or how they rule that in UK I have no idea.

The intent in the UK is to maintain a non-violent society rather than working with a violent one. We are allowed to use 'reasonable force' to defend ourselves - stabbing an attacker would be very borderline and - knives (in this context) are considered offensive weapons and carrying one is an offense without regard to whether you intended offense or defense. A school of thought is that without Ninja training you're as likely to end up being stabbed by your own knife as having any opportunity to use it. I've been attacked in the street (twice) - neither time (surprise!) was I given a warning that would have given me time to draw a knife (or gun).

Well, again, it's the amount or frequency of them exhibited across UK news sources, and the in-your-face richness of ingenuity implied ("Hah. Guns? We don't need no stinkin' guns!"). Not a statistical pissing contest between different countries. Like the incidents are regarded as precious gems to put on display, and also as if the background editors-in-chief are covertly suggesting some kind of cultural flux is going on.

MSM is broadly maligned as partisan or left-wing, but occasionally there are these glimpses of inconsistency or crypto-rebelliousness going on in its establishment. Maybe the poor moral etiquette of distributing the name of a suspect right off the bat (along with an actual photo), or needlessly inserting in the text that a "butcher" originally came from Poland, and various other heretical subtleties.

In another thread, C2 pointed out an irony-grounded variant of this phenomenon in North America. Though residing in police context, it's easily part of a broader potential pattern that is adopted in mainstream journalism, too: "If you wanted to 'appear' T friendly while actually drawing as much attention as possible to the trans aspect - 'gunperson' might be exactly the word you'd choose."

Yes, self-defense homicides are still recorded as homicides. Self-defense is distinguished from murder, but just looking at homicide stats won't show that.
