That’s the term being used to describe a trans woman here in Canada who earlier in the week committed mass murder during a home and school shooting spree. Gunperson terminology has sparked outrage from many Canadians, the consensus being that the murderer is getting more respect from the police than the victims.
Quote:Then, in subsequent communications, police referred to the deceased suspect as a “gunperson” — not a gunman, not a shooter, but a “gunperson.”
Given that "shooter" is likewise sex-neutral, "shooter" is deemed too hurtful now, and implies the individual actually "did something", rather than just being the possessor of a gun? Or can "shooter" have a different, pejorative meaning when associated with a transgender person?
If you wanted to 'appear' T friendly while actually drawing as much attention as possible to the trans aspect - 'gunperson' might be exactly the word you'd choose.
You would think that if the shooter had survived that he/she would want to be identified as a female shooter First reports actually mentioned woman as shooter. So what changed? Why aren’t male winners in women’s sports identified as sportspersons?

Glad to see a thread about these appalling events. Last I heard ten dead, including the shooter (who shot himself), his parents, and seven students at the local high school. Plus a couple of dozen wounded, some critically. (One is reportedly a girl shot in the head who might not survive, and probably won't be the same person if she does. That's effectively murder.)
Tumbler Ridge BC is a tiny community (about 2,400 population), so this must have hit them hard. Everybody knows a victim or a victim's family.
The US cable TV news has been almost silent about it. "Another trans shooting" just wouldn't fit the narrative, I guess. I learned about it on X.
Sky News reported it this way. "“That is extremely unusual. It’s rare to have a female attacker.” It might not be their fault, it might be what the RCMP told them.
Talk on X is that the shooter had psychiatric problems for years and was sent to the national health for them. But instead of treating the psychiatric problems, woke physicians decided he was "really" a female trapped in a male body and started injecting him with female hormones. And the resulting endocrine chaos in his body arguably did nothing to improve his psychiatric state. If there's any truth to that, then some physicians might bear some responsibility for this, though I don't anticipate anyone in the health system having to answer for it.
Here in the US, with a $2 million verdict for a detransitioner who was medically transitioned as a minor, we might be on our way to holding the psychiatrists and doctors responsible for their hand in abetting mental illness and exploiting children.
