Can’t believe the provincial govt spent $75m of Ontario taxpayer money just to target American Republicans. Perhaps spreading the 75 mil around by helping those affected by tariffs would have been better idea. I’d rather they bribed Trump than pull this stunt.

When the context is Reagan clearly saying he imposed tariffs, the context certainly does matter.
Not to leftists like you, but to reasonable people.

The context is that he had to impose some tariffs just this once but that he is strongly against doing so regularly for the reasons given. A 5 year old can understand it. Are you saying that he was really for imposing tariffs even though he said they are a bad idea?

Despite his free trade goals, the percentage of imports facing some form of trade restriction rose significantly during Reagan's presidency, from 12% in 1980 to 21% by 1984, explains Tax Notes. This was a result of his administration responding to political pressure to create restraints, which was described by one economic adviser as a "strategic retreat" from his free trade principles.

Even Trump would prefer other countries to drop their trade obstacles, rather than have tariffs. What you want to do and what you need to do are often two different things.

IOW Reagan had to sometimes raise tariffs even though he was dead set against it. That's exactly what he said. Did you forget the reasons he gave for protectionism being such a bad idea? Why manbaby reacted so angrily to Reagan's statements? Why he had to lie and say the video was faked? Why you try so hard to defend every stupid thing manbaby does and says?

Reagan obviously wasn't "dead set against it," since he was imposing tariffs at the time of that recording. You insisting it was all very black and white is naive and self-delusional. Reagan didn't like protectionism, but also wanted fair trade. Trump has repeatedly said he wants fair trade.
But keep on whining, crybaby.

That would be true if he hadn't in fact gone thru a long explanation as to why tariffs and protectionism were so bad in that speech. But he did and it is all a matter of worldwide knowledge now. Reagan was adamantly against protectionism, something Trump is totally for. Which is why Trump lied and said the video was faked. There would be no accusation of fakery if the speech was pro-tariffs.

Where did Trump criticize the ad for being against protectionism?
Or are you just making up bullshit to justify your crying?

He called it fake because it is against his protectionist beliefs. If it was for them he wouldn't have reacted that way at all. Use your brain for once.

No, dullard, he called it fraud, not fake, and he never mentioned protectionism at all.
It was clearly taken out of the context that Reagan admitted to imposing tariffs.
Learn to read, dipshit.
