Anti-foreigner sentiments and politicians are on the rise as Japan faces a population crisis
https://apnews.com/article/japan-xenopho...1b35557e1f

EXCERPTS: The populist wave comes as Japan, a traditionally insular nation that values conformity and uniformity, sees a record surge of foreigners needed to bolster its shrinking workforce. Even the governing party, which has promoted foreign labor and tourism, now calls for tighter restrictions on foreigners, but without showing how Japan, which has one of the world’s fastest-aging and fastest-dwindling populations, can economically stay afloat without them... Japan vows 'ZERO' migration in victory for furious Japanese campaign, as new PM imminent
https://youtu.be/C4ayltYFCSc

VIDEO EXCERPTS: Japan is cracking down on immigration. The new president of the ruling party, Sanae Takaichi, who looks set to be elected prime minister by the parliament, said immigration was to blame for rising crime and unfair competition with Japanese workers.

ST: "This is strange, isn't it? Isn't it unfair? Unfortunately, with the increasing number of foreigners in Japan, we're seeing and hearing stories like this every day. Because Japanese people are patient, everyone just swallows what they want to say. However, I want to take this opportunity to say that this is just not good, and we have to stop it."

NARRATOR: She said she wanted to go back to zero, pause immigration, and rethink the whole policy.

ST: As for me, I want to have a calm, mutually considerate relationship with foreigners, about how we can live together.

I intend to reconsider it completely. I plan to think about it from zero again, because year after year the culture between us and everyone else is so very different.

Yet, people are being brought in all together. To keep bringing them in, this policy we must pause and reconsider.

Those who come with economic motives, and claim to be refugees -- such people will be properly sent home. Also, regarding those who overstay illegally, they too will be strictly required to obey the law.

NARRATOR: [...] The anti-immigration party Sanseitō has soared in support among the Japanese, forcing other parties to take voters' concerns more seriously.

Japanese media is focused heavily on Britain's troubles with its own immigration policy, and a movement inspired by the Raise the Colors campaign took off in Japan last month.

Takaichi dedicated more than half of her policy speech to migration related issues, saying foreign tourists had assaulted deer in her home region of Nara Prefecture. She vowed to do something about [quote] "people from abroad taking pleasure in trampling on Japanese feelings".

Japan has about the same land area as California. And it has upwards of 120 million people, three times California, more than 1/3 of the whole United States. What's more, Japan is more mountainous than California with less farm land. (That's why seafood is so big in Japan.)

So by most measures, Japan is overpopulated.

While their population collapse is worrying (it's probably the result of feminism where women are less interested in having children and being mothers) it will have to become a lot more severe before it becomes dangerous to the Japanese nation.

And Japan is a world leader in robotics, so they might be able to expand their workforce that way.

There's also plenty of ways they could incentivize having more children... if they really want to.

Today's standards surely cost a million dollars at the very minimum for each child (from birth to fully independent adulthood), and that probably doesn't even have to include college tuition. Whereas over a century ago you could raise eight kids barefoot in the swampland and nobody gave a yowl.

Of course, that applies to responsible population groups that are vulnerable to accelerating standards. And perhaps still not as much to trailer park rednecks and partial segments of marginalized ethnic groups that are exempt from or written off for subcultural reasons (via likewise being historically influenced by archaic or legacy Ulster Scot societal orientation and lifestyle).

The Hollywood rich, OTOH, are just too wrapped-up and boxed-in by what their careers demand, and the incredibly elevated divorce rate, to reproduce much (despite having the money). And there is an antinatalism epidemic that's been spreading across upper-class Dem membership for some time.

But Japan might have its own unique set of parameters that taunt and intimidate potential parents via placing them at the edge of whatever yawning financial cliff or alternative philosophical slash ideological bugbear.

Sanae Takaishi was just elected Japan's new Prime Minister by a vote of Japan's parliament.

She professes deep admiration for Margaret Thatcher, favors strengthening Japan's military, nuclear power and cutting taxes. As far as culture-war issues go, she opposes same-sex marriage.

She says that she looks forward to working with President Trump to make the US-Japan alliance stronger and more prosperous.

For his part, President Trump plans a visit to Japan around the end of the month, to attend the next Asia-Pacific Economic Conference.

President Trump is in Tokyo right now live, meeting with Sanae Takaishi, the new Japanese Prime Minister. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is there too.

Trump just told her that the US looks forward to allying with Japan at the highest level. He assured her that if Japan has any questions, issues or problems, to contact him directly.

Then the press was ushered out for a private session. Speculation is that a new US-Japan trade deal is in the works..

The President and PM just flew by helicopter to Yokosuka Naval Base, where Pete Hegseth was waiting along with assorted US and Japanese defence officials. They have boarded the USS George Washington, a nuclear aircraft carrier forward deployed there.
